Which SOS rankings do y’all consider the most accurate? Somebody posted ESPN’s SOS rankings the other day; it’s just hard for me to take them serious at anything.

SOS doesn't matter if you just take care of business and win. I guarantee any P4 team who doesn't lose more than 2 will make the playoffs.

I use FEI SoS.

2025 FEI Ratings

The problem with most SoS is they use average strength of the teams faced, and that is pretty flawed. Playing #49 and #50 is much easier than playing against #1 and #130, but the average says otherwise and it's just wrong.

FEI SoS instead calculated the expected losses an elite/good/average team would have on a teams schedule. As a result, it correctly see's that #49 and #50 are easy as an elite team would have almost no expected losses there, while the game against the #1 team would likely have half an expected loss.

So I only use metrics that work off expected losses.

2. Auburn
3. Florida
4. Texas
5. Arkansas
6. Alabama
7. Kentucky
12. Georgia
14. Texas A&M
23. Missouri
24. Tennessee
26. Oklahoma
27. Miss St
33. Vandy
37. South Carolina
40. LSU
75. Ole Miss

I understand ball and the playoff system … has nothing to do with why I’m asking about SOS

Right on.

Your question is good because they all seem to be very different, these SOS rankings. So, I don't put a lot of stock in them.

How is that even possible in this conference?

Yeah, I was surprised to see them that far down. Let's check.

Power ranks for the Ole Miss schedule:

#123 Georgia St
#49 Kentucky
#43 Arkansas
#59 Tulane
#16 LSU
#70 Wazzu

Yeah, for an elite team, only LSU is going to register. If you go by the Good or Average score, Ole Miss gets up to 48 and then 28.

I always go by ELS, but maybe the good or average is better.

GLS Rankings:

#1 Florida
#3 Auburn
#4 Alabama
#5 Arkansas
#8 Georgia
#11 Texas A&M
#12 Kentucky
#14 Texas
#22 LSU
#25 Oklahoma
#29 Miss St
#35 Missouri
#36 Tennessee
#47 Ole Miss
#55 Vandy
