I guess only Miss State can go from not ranked on May 28 to #4 in the final poll.

You seem like you have been following college baseball a long time and are well versed in how midweek games work.

are you under the impression that this loss will have any effect on the team going forward. The bats need to get better sure, but Marceaux looked fine and Hilliard looked fine. Aaron George was put in the game and couldn't throw a strike or miss a bat. Which lead to NW getting 3 runs in one inning.

A loss was almost expected on BR radio all week from host to host. And there will be more midweek losses this season, some probably far worse. What matters is getting everybody’s role nailed down, winning SEC series, and being ready for the stretch run. The same formula LSU baseball has used for over 30 years.

It is not uncommon at all for highly ranked teams to lose midweek games. Those games are sometimes used for experimenting with the batting order, giving younger pitchers oppurtunities and resting players. Meanwhile, the opposing team may throw their ace against you. Of course the highly ranked team still wants to won, but the data that you get on the "experiment" is most important.

LSU loves losing to mid-week teams. Go back and look at how many mid-week games we lost the last two years (maybe further back as well). Eliminated both times in the tournament by the eventual NC.

You can't put much weight in mid week games - especially for LSU. I'm convinced Mainieri tries to lose mid week games. I do think LSU's pitching is going to hold them back this year, though.

How do those weekend games work losing to TX and Cal with your best pitchers

So what you're telling me is that your backups suck. Gotcha.

Cute emoji. Hess or Marceaux would be mid-week starters for us at best.

If you looked into what happened in the game yesterday you would see that one pitcher had a bad outing for LSU, and the bats struggled because NW threw a senior that threw 120 pitches. I don't know what the deal is but a pitcher that throws 85 or less will always give an LSU offense fits.
The big take away from the game yesterday was the bats not performing, which has been the big story all year.
