Premeditated Ejection

Clemson star linebacker James Skalski came to hit and hurt LSU Monday night. I respect and like that in a player.
He made two signature hits of note. He legally damaged Joe’s ribs on one, and he was ejected after hitting Jefferson on the other.
What do I mean by signature? Skalski runs as fast as he can and launches himself crown of helmet first. This guarantees a hard hit, and increases the chance of injury. Injury to himself and others. Paralysis and death can occur to the player hitting with the top of the helmet. This is why he wears the old fashioned “horse collar”.
Now James is young and dumb. He thought risking ejection, paralysis, and death were worth it. Fortunately, he got the best of the three, ejection. Maybe he learned his lesson and won’t put himself at risk in the future. Maybe.
Unfortunately, the real culprits were not ejected.
We may excuse him for being young and dumb, and not fully appreciating that the risks are not worth the rewards. But his coaches not only allowed this young man to risk life threatening injuries, they encouraged it! If Joe had been knocked out, they might have had another championship. If James ended up as a paraplegic, the game would have ended the same for all but James.
James may or may not have learned a lesson, but the “responsible adult” Clemson coaches have not. Swinney and Venables should sit out the first half of Clemson’s next game. Dabo Swinney because he is the Head Coach and the buck stops there. And Brent Venables, Associate Head Coach, Defensive Coordinator, and Linebackers Coach because he failed to teach and insist that the young man use proper technique.
Maybe this will teach all three a lesson that they should have learned long ago.

Meh.
He played physical. By rule it was targeting, but it wasn't even bad

His hit on Burrow was perfect form from what I remember. Not high or low and led with his shoulder before wrapping his arms.
What more do you want?

James Skalski
He looks stupid as hell without his helmet on, but when he straps that top on and runs out there with his face squeezed together he looks a true Gomer from FMJ.

No one was injured, the hit wasn’t dirty, just met the definition of targeting. Your team won, just move on.

It was....,ish. He dropped his head on that hit as well.
And for fricks sake you mouth breathing idiots. THE NECK BRACE DOES NOT PROTECT FROM NECK INJURIES WHEN YOUR LOOKING AT YOUR OWN LACES!
And it was targeting. Rule needs to be changed though.

It seemed like he hit him more in the shoulder/neck area than the head. Is targeting called for the neck too? I personally didn't think it was targeting.

Yeah his head drops a bit. Wouldn't call it malicious

The way football has been played for the existence of the game. It’s the way these players have played their entire career. It may take a few years for the targeting rule to make this technique of hitting another player a rare occurrence. Sure, there are dirty hits, but most of the time the targeting penalties are just a result of how players have played the game.

LSU won the game. This is a very weird melt.

Burrow was. But I actually have no problem with hitting with the shoulder pads. It was a clean hard hit, and I applaud the HIT! Man that’s football!
But I condemn the technique. If Joe had moved forward 4 more inches, James could be in traction today.

Yes my team won! And I will feel the glow for the rest of my life just like 2003 and 2007.
But I have moved on. I’m not talking about Joe’s injury or Jefferson’s possible injury. I’m talking about the Clemson kids possible tragic injury, and how his coaches failed to protect him from himself.
I’m an arsehole who loves “I told you so” moments, but I hope I never get to say it because a Clemson kid is carted off the field with a broken neck that his coaches and horse collar failed to prevent.

I actually think we need a two tiered rule. Tier 1 targeting, your ejected, Tier 2 a 15 yard penalty and you have to sit out the next 10 plays, sort of like Hockey does (i.e. you are in the penalty box) but after serving your penalty box time, you get to return to the game.

if clemson had 11 players on the field with the same intensity as slaski, they may have beat our arse.
he's a beast.

His eyes are a little too far apart. Sign of inbreeding.

watch the GIF man, he obviously turns his head away.
1000% not targeting on the Burrow hit.
