Predict the 4 Major Conferences in 2026

- Boise left out of P16 for academic reasons. BYU left out for religious reasons.
- Kansas State/Iowa State are the ones I don't know about. They make sense geographically but they add very little $ or athletic wise. However, not sure where else B1G goes if ACC holds together, P12 adds and Notre Dame says no. For now K-State is odd out.
- ACC turns into old ACC and old Big East
- K-State joins with AAC schools (SMU, UCF, USF, Houston) and better MWC schools (Boise, Colorado State, UNLV, SDSU) to form the 5th league:
- San Diego State
- Boise State
- Colorado State
- UNLV
- Kansas State
- BYU
- SMU
- UCF
- USF
- FAU
- Houston
- Memphis
- Cincinnati
- Tulane

1. Suck to BU
2. Why on earth would The Big 10 want Iowa State, Kansas, and Kansas State?
3. All 3 of those conferences don't hold a candle to the SEC. It's not even a little close.

Kansas for basketball, and it fits in their current Western Division landscape. Kansas State and Iowa State.....I mean I don't know. But like I said, where else do they go if the ACC and P12 sit tight and they can't get Notre Dame? There aren't any other options out there except coming back after Mizzou or considering West Virginia.

Outside of the P12/ACC collapsing, no possible combo will match the SEC.

Why are Washington State and Purdue getting kicked out of the PAC16 and B1G, respectively?

Because I went very fast and am very, very human

Not collapsing. Culling. I already laid it out. The SEC will continue to expand and select top programs. The rest will either join and form a college version of the NFL or band together to form the counter SEC. You end up with 2 mega conferences of around 20 to 24 teams. Those mega conferences break up into divisions. The mega-conference title is either a 4 or 6 team playoff (depends if you want WC and byes). Then the champion of the SEC & champion of the counter SEC play for all the marbles.

Those Oklahoma St vs USC games at 9pm central are going to be electric

Right, So the B1G would only need to add 2 of those 3 and the PAC gets the other. All have 16 teams then. I like ND and WVU to the ACC.

Agree - I think we are moving towards the end game of the "Power 5" basically separating from the NCAA and being it's own thing.
I can't say that I expected it to be the SEC vs The World, though. But it's definitely looking like that is a possibility.

Yep - and K-State is the odd duck

I think it's easier for the PAC to accept TCU and Baylor than BYU. Especially TCU.
Baylor, I dunno. BYU has some pretty specific things that (more power to them) they consider non-starters that the PAC just won't accept.

I think the only chance for a conference to get anywhere close to the SEC's level is for the B1G to raid the Pac-12 for schools like USC, Oregon, & Washington and pray they can convince ND to join. The Pac-12 scooping up the remaining Big-12 teams does nothing to help them increase their leverage in their next tv rights negotiations.
And I think the SEC will want to raid the ACC, but may have to wait depending on how iron clad the ACC's GOR is. But I also see the B1G wanting to grab UNC & UVA from the ACC.
So I don't see there being 4 true major conferences in the future. 2 major conferences maybe. But the only conference that stands a change to gaining enough ground to come close to the SEC is the B1G, and they'd have to be about decimating their ole buddy the Pac-12.

Here is my master plan. I spent little time trying to get the divisions perfect or balanced. Probably need to settle of the final X # of teams. Arguments can be made.
But the concept would be this.
Play your division.
Play 1 team from each of the other divisions within your own conference (based on the previous year's finish)
EX: If A&M & MSU won divisions A & B then they would be matched up the following year.
Schedule Non SEC or Non Anti-SEC team to fill out your schedule.
Playoffs would be the winner of each division plus 1 WC. Top 2 teams get byes (tiebreaker: record, H2H vs other division winners, SOS, coin flip)
The winner of the SEC plays the winner of the non-SEC.
The bowl games would match up the division runner ups and would happen during playoffs. Could do the same for 3rd place teams. Everyone else is out of the "bowls".

At that point wouldn't we just stop calling it the SEC and call it the East and the West or something? I have to imagine there would be some sort of new confederation or something. But maybe the SEC just says "fvck it, we win, our name stays forever" .
And for all the talk of "ruining" college football, I don't know how any fan of a big school could look at this and think "oh no, this is awful!". Takes the best parts of the NFL model while keeping regional games and rivalries alive and removes 1/3 of the schedule against shite teams that aren't competing on the same level as you are. It's awesome.

I would love it for it's ridiculous.

It would be amazing. I should probably be paid a few millie for coming up with it.
