I wonder how long it'll be before it's not just these same 5 teams at the top of the polls just about every week. Seems like it's been this way the last 3 seasons (Including heading into 2019).

Account for 15 of the 20 possible playoff spots the last 5 years. Can kind of take UGA out though since they only have 1, the rest have at least 2. Alabama has been in all 5 playoffs, Clemson 4 of the 5.

ND and Texas should be higher, Michigan should be lower

Not sure why Texas should be higher, 12 seems about right for them. Dont understand all the places having them like #8 or so. They are literally replacing almost their entire defense.

I wasn't necessarily talking abotu playoff participants, more so that those 5 teams generally make up almost all or all of hte top 5 at any given point thorughout the year. 2 years ago the 4 playoff teams came from that group. Last year the 4 playoff teams had 3 of those teams (and everyone knew ND was gonna get obliterated by whoever they played against). Withotu even playing a snap of 2019 you can go ahead and just about assure that clemson adn the bama/uga winner will be in, and it's a pretty safe bet that 1 of OU/OSU will be in as well.

Crazy a lot of their fans do not like Gurt. Also, very impressive after losing the players they did from the draft.

Yeah. In 2017 and 2018, there were 32 AP Poll Releases. Here are how many times each team was ranked in the AP Top 5 during those 32 poll releases:

32- Alabama
29- Clemson
19- Georgia
16- Oklahoma
15- Ohio St.
----
12- Notre Dame
8- Penn St.
8- Wisconsin
5- Michigan
5- LSU
4- USC
2- Miami
2- TCU
1- Auburn
1- Florida St.
1- Washington

Those 5 teams at the top have combined to account for 69.3% of all AP Top 5 positions claimed in the weekly releases during the past two seasons.

thanks, that's exactly what it felt like. The next closest is 3 weeks behind but after losing to UGA I doubt they're gonna be able to catch much ground.

6 more draft-able players on this years team. Top 3 db in Danzler
Top LB in Thompson
Mauling OL

I think we are too high but I can’t quite grasp why A&M is so high. Wtf have they done? Besides losing to MSU yet again....and yet again begin the season ranked inside the top 15.

I’m not saying he isn’t trending up, I’m not saying he won’t get AM to the top....

I’m saying the team hasn’t done enough to warrant such a dick suck.

Looks about right. I'd put another gap between #9 Notre Dame and #10 Texas A&M (20 points separate them).... and also one more between #15 Auburn and #16 Utah (26 points separate them). Those are also fairly large gaps.

It's pretty wild how much respect Mississippi State has earned over the years that after losing a bunch of players they are still preseason top 20.

That's all Mullen. It's hard to overstate the change in national perception of State football from 2008 to 2019.

A lot of the reason for their ranking is their high position in the computer polls... They are #10 in S&P+ and #16 in FPI.

As for the human preseason polls, State is not getting nearly as much respect:

#15 in Sporting News
#22 in College Football News
#25 in ESPN.com
NR in USA Today
NR in Sports Illustrated
NR in The Athletic
NR in CBS Sports

Is Kentucky losing a whole lot of their production? They’re getting straight disrespected. No way SC and UT are receiving votes without Kentucky also.

They're losing benny snell and josh allen which is a big reason for much of their recent success.

Also, they're replacing the whole starting OL from last year
