This coronavirus is estimated to have a mortality rate of 5%. That doesn’t sound high but the Spanish flu mortality rate was 10% and killed 50-100 million people or 5% of the world population then. China has 1.4 billion people. Do the math.

You are absolutely right. As a physician, it scares me when we get these kind of outbreaks because it does not take much to overwhelm an already stressed system. I too am worried that the Chinese are not telling everything they know about this outbreak. Coronvirus is typically much like a cold, but this one appears to illicit an extreme immune response, which is similar to what was reported in the Influenza Epidemic of 1917-1918 that killed millions. People should go back and read the history of that outbreak. It was a scary time for sure.
Prayers for those in Aggieland and hoping they have gotten it under control and contained. With the Chinese (Asian) New Year starting this weekend there is a high likelihood of this getting spread around even more.
