It's helps players.
You got guys like Franks for example. He can go somewhere he can play instead of ride pine. Who knows. Have a great season. Maybe get a shot with an NFL team.
There are a hundred more just like that every year. Why not open the door for these young men to have another chance somewhere else?

Well a kid like Jamie Newman would maybe go in the later rounds but he’s got a chance to be a first rounder. Where would Jalen Hurts end up had he sat on the Bench at Bama? Saban understood that Jalen was doing what was best for him.

The problem with the portal is that it counts against the 25. If you have a lot of players transfer, this can be a real problem

The biggest issue I see is the inconsistency applied to allow some players to play immediately and others have to sit. Justin Fields can play immediately because some one in the stands yelled a word he hears all the time and it hurt his little feelings. Brenton Cox transfers from the same school because he didn’t like the situation there and has to sit out a year.

Same for Antonneous Clayton from UF to GT. Host of other players too. NCAA propped up big name programs with big name QBs by letting them play immediately for no other reason than for playing time which should be automatically a one year sit.
Also, y’all can’t see what the OP is doing here? He just coaxed you all into reasonably responding to a thread where he was clearly using this platform to start another “Jamie Newman (average QB from a weak ACC program) is a star player”. Y’all got fooled.

It’s pro player so I’m all for it. Kids shouldn’t be indentured servants. It was never about parity. It’s about the student athlete.
Highly rated recruits have always transferred to seek more playing time. Many would go the smaller programs like UAB, La Tech, etc or drop to FCS to gain immediate eligibility.
Players want to play.

All the portal does is make transfers public to everyone. It didn’t change transfer rules. I don’t think it has any effect on transfers at all it’s just now instead of it being a rumor that so and so is transferring out you see them in the portal.

Good for the players and CF. Now recruiters can not promise a recruit the world and then move to the next player. Coaching staffs have to be honest to a kid or he is gone within a year;.

Jamie Newman is not a diamond in the rough. He sucks. Completion percentage was below 60% in all but 3 games. And below 50% in 4 of last 5. Dude is another Jalen Hurts. He sucks
Classic

Hurting. It's basically free agency. Don't like it.

WGAF about parity in CFB? You want parity go watch the NFL.
Having definitive haves and have nots in CFB is part of the show. It shouldn't be easy to get to the top.

I don’t care for it.
Rampant college transfers were never supposed to be a thing.
I hate hearing the now constant talk about who may or may not be transferring. I hate that every single star QB recruit is effectively now a free agent their entire college career.
3 of the 4 CFP teams were playing with a transfer QB and Clemson's QB was the guy who made the other guy transfer.

I feel like an athlete should stick with the team he commits to. All these players quitting on the team because they don't get playing time or whatever is not a good look for their future decisions.

It’s good for the human beings that make college football what it is and it means we get to see more good players get a chance.
