I dont trust the committee to ignore a 8-0 Pac12 champ or 8-1 Big Ten champ versus a 10-1 SEC runner up. The playoff should be expanded to 8 teams this year. Id rather add notre dame and the big 10 runner up then leave out what could easily be the 2nd or 3rd best team in the country.

A 10-1 SEC team has something to worry about from the Pac 12 and their 7 game schedule?

If a team like Oregon went 7-0, I believe they would let them in.

It is the perfect year to trial base an eight-team playoff. Or a two-tier playoff one for a group of 5 to have their own championship and the big boys have theirs.

History says they won't. The SOS would be so low it would be laughable. And the playoff committee has gotten it right so far.

And then there is COVID. While many on the Rant are doing their victory dance, reality says none of us get through our entire schedule unscathed. No wiggle room for the B1G and less for the Pac 12. They put themselves in this bind by all this procrastination, so their margin of error is nonexistent.

In short, their blueprint to the promised land should come with lotto odds attached.

Just remember your opinion when Bama beats Georgia at home and then loses to them in the SECCG and is competing with Clemson Oklahoma Pac12 champ and Big10 champ for 3 spots.

I agree. This season will only strengthen the argument of those advocating for expansion anyway. 2 reasons, one, the sos is gonna be near impossible to use because we won't truly know how it should be configured because if no ooc games allowing predetermined opinions and/or "political" pressure from the committee members to advocate for certain conferences or teams based on the conference they play in. Two, things could reasonably end in a situation where a conference feels like they are being "systematically shunned"(pac 12) by the committee based on preconceived notions out of their control causing backlash stronger than the usual group of 5 discussions. Essentially a power 5 conference feeling theyve been relegated to the group of 5 level. I personally feel if you're gonna have 5 power conferences the winner of each should be in the playoff. Otherwise eliminate the terms power 5 and group of 5. Not even gonna get into the AP option of deciding a different national champ which is what the playoff is supposed to eliminate.
