Do you have to win your conference championship in order to get in the playoffs under the current setup? If what happens to Notre Dame?

I don’t think so. Alabama last year proves it. Then again there’s no telling how the committee will look on Notre Dame compared to Alabama.

I would LOVE to see ND beat LSU or Bama in the playoff just to see this place Melt.

You just have to be one of the four best teams in the mind of the committee. They say they value conference championships, they say they value strength of schedule over eye test, but when push comes to shove, they have all of the power in this and do what they want.

No. Are you new to college football?

no, bama has played for the NC or made the playoffs twice w/o winning the SEC.

imo, it should be a requirement. I understand why it's not (they try to find the 4 best teams; kinda try anyway). but this is COLLEGE, not the pros. we need to institute conference champs only and expand the playoffs.

Only requirement is to have one or fewer losses. See one-loss Alabama getting in over two-loss conference champion Ohio State last year and one-loss Ohio State getting in over two-loss conference champion Penn State the year before.

It is not a requirement, but according to the committee it is highly desired. Whatever that means.

Notre Dame is likely in at this point unless they lose two. I don't see that happening with their remaining schedule. Notre Dame will be the biggest hurdle to a non-conference winning team making it in this year.

good. I like Notre Dame and think them being good is good for college football. sorry but good seems to be my favorite word today. and that's good.

I disagree. That's a great way to get the best teams sitting at home while we watch four 10-2 teams who just happened to win their conferences play for the NC.

Why would it change now since the last since the last 3 years that was not a requirement? Alabama last year, OSU the year before, and I guess technically OU the year before was the conference champion but your question stated conference CG which they did not have yet in the Big 12.

I actually think they might not even get in undefeated.

Lets say Clemson and Alabama both win out. They will both be in.

Then OU plays a top 10 WVU, OSU plays a top 10 UM, and ND plays USC(unranked) on the last weekend of the regular season. All 3 win and OSU & OU finish 11-1 and ND finishes 12-0. But the next weekend OSU & OU both play another high ranked team and win their conference CG while ND is sitting at home.

I could see a 12-1 OSU & OU conference champs playing right before the last poll to determine who gets in both getting in over a 12-0 undefeated ND team. Just saying.
