I think Branson did adapt in the 2000s. Because the years prior, Branson had a reputation of being the home of washed up musicians. Johnny Cash almost made it his home before American records resurrected his career. It was the place where careers went to die.

Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Cherokee, Cades Cove, Townsend, if you can’t find something to do there you are just dead inside.
Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are family centered tourist traps. Cherokee has history and casinos. Townsend has history and nature. Cades Cove has history and nature. Fishing, golf, destination theme parks, gambling, sporting events, everything but an open ocean.
Bud I've lived in East TN in the past. I'm very aware of the area. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge suck, and the people who flock en masse there are worse. The mountains around them are great.

When I was there, the park system was great. Softball leagues everywhere. Great public sand volleyball courts. No idea if that stuff is still there - I'm talking - good God - over twenty years ago.

I’m 32 and far from being a hippie. If you like antique furniture stores, gift shops, and country music shows by artists that are past their prime or that couldn’t cut it, have at it. The best thing to do in Branson is fish.

I think people are having too high of expectations for both places. None of them were intended to be universal Studios or Disney World. Both places are a product of the environment from where they are located.
Both offer just enough and are cheap compared to other places. It just depends on your expectations.

I remember they use to have Wayne Newton and the Platters. I did go see Ray Stevens when I was much younger.

Branson has a TOY MUSEUM, an AUTO AND FARM MUSEUM, a CELIBRITY CAR MUSEUM a TRACTOR MUSEUM, and a HISTORY OF FISHING MUSEUM.
Who cares about that shite. You can see those anywhere. When’s the last time you saw a motherfricking salt and pepper shaker museum?!

Can't argue with that. Gotta' be honest here - if they'd let me keep a beer in my hand, I probably could look at various salt and pepper shakers for a couple hours. If they have cool things to read ? Arrange them chronologically ? Maybe a thing I can press where Morgan Freeman gives me a couple minutes about the evolution of the salt and pepper shaker ? Hoo Boy - all bets are off.

The Smokey Mountain Classic is played at Everett Park in Maryville every year and draws nationwide. The park is easy walking distance to my grandparents house and I used to watch it every summer I was state side. They moved the bigger games to another park in Maryville but most summer weekends they have some tournaments going.

I ride motorcycles and Dragons Tail sucks severely.
Worst road ever. Of course I was driving it around midnight...in the rain...with a screaming newborn strapped in a car seat in the back.
As for the area...I don't really care about downtown Gatlinburg or the souvenir areas, but I love the national park...cades cove, the motor trail, the chimneys, etc

Only good tourist trap is Niagara Falls. The rest aren’t as good

But seriously, I'd prefer something closer to a scenic nature walk than a real hike. Too many knee surgeries already.
I live about 35 miles from Gatlinburg. My wife and daughter go hiking during the summer, I trout fish. They’re all kinds of trails long and short to hike, you may see a Sasquatch though. I’m kidding, well, there have been the occasional sighting or two??, mostly black bears are encountered though.

Hell yes!

You haven’t lived until you’ve driven the Dragons Tail in a mini van with a wife and 3 kids onboard. That was a mistake.

frick all y'all. If a moonshine tasting flight at Sugarlands followed immediately by a moonshine tasting flight at Ole Smokey is wrong, then gawddammit, I don't want to be right. I love Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
