PFF says Justin Fields is the most accurate quarterback it has ever recorded

PFF wrote on Monday that Fields is the most accurate college quarterback they’ve ever recorded in terms of completion percentage over expected (CPOE), since they began recording college data in 2014. CPOE measures the rate of “a quarterback’s accuracy based on the likelihood of them completing a pass in the given circumstances and whether they actually completed the pass.” It takes into account things like pass depth, pressure and target width. Most importantly, PFF data show a correlation between college CPOE and expected points added per play in the NFL.

Trubisky higher than Mahomes?

Obviously PFF is messed up. Look at the first two names alone

Fields had an incredible 2019 that likely wins the Heisman most years easily. Something like 40 TDs to 1 pick heading into the playoffs. He didn't have as good of a year last year but was still really good and his performance against Clemson with the broken rib was one of the gutsiest performances I've seen. I hate OSU but I'm a big Justin Fields fan.

How do they adjust this metric for Mac Jones to consider the fact that Alabama receivers were running wild with four yards of separation?

Thats a weird way to define accuracy. Correct me if I am wrong, but this is giving more points to passed that are hard to complete, such as deep, rushed, on the run. So if a QB is super accurate but completes the pass without being rushed and medium distance, that doesn't give as many points as a super deep ball that is poorly thrown but a monster WR comes down with correct?
I am not saying this has no value, but I would think that certain offenses and certain QB attributes would be likely to skew the results.

Ok PFF just lost what credibility they had left

What’s Joe without his Junior year?

I can't wrap my head around how this stat is measured. All I know is that Fields's accuracy tanked when he was pressured, which happened a lot more often last year than in 2019.

PFF also graded Trask behind Franks and made an entire article to explain why he wasn't an elite Quarterback lol.

I take their grading system on Quarterbacks with a huge grain of salt lol.

Three of the top ten were drafted this year, so clearly it has to do with a shift in the game itself, not that I’m belittling the achievements of the players on the list. It’s still very hard.

A QB would not get as much credit for a poorly thrown ball

Say what you want, Justin is at his best when he is running fake punts.

Fields is good. But an average Bama defense shut him down. It will be interesting to see how he does against NFL defenses

I'm usually a PFF defender, but honestly the inclusion of Lamar Jackson gives me pause here.
I guess there have only been so many QBs drafted in the first round over the past six years, so maybe he's just there by default?

And of course we know Mahomies is the best in that group.
