If we actually wanted the four "best" teams the playoffs would be:
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Alabama (or maybe Tennessee)
4. Ohio State
This would be the most watched playoff ever.
Anyone who thinks that any of these teams wouldn't be favored in any game against TCU or USC are on freaking drugs.

Alabama and Tennessee (w/ Hooker) would absolutely have their hands full with TCU or USC.
USC would score on basically every possession against both of us.

Pretty much. I would’ve been salty over this any other year because I have been dying to make a trip to NOLA for a VOLS Sugar Bowl, but hard pass with it being an 11 am kick on NYE this year

Lol then it’s settled. If USC goes down and we get a month to prepare, anything can happen. It’d be the best championship yet.

Tennessee is very average without Hendon Hooker. Milton can sling it deep but there is a reason he didn't see the field until mop up/injury. Besides, giving up 60+ to an average team late doesn't sit well with the PTB.

They may scrap the whole 12 team playoff if two Big 10 teams and two SEC teams make the playoffs this year

IF's don't count - results on the field do. If they don't count than why do we even play the game in the first place. We beat Alabama - end of story. We crushed LSU on the road - Alabama lost to LSU. We have a harder SOS and more ranked wins - IDGAF if you think Alabama would win 8 out of 10 or whatever number you want to make up - you play once and TN was the better team that day. TENN> BAMA

He’s right. There is no justification for Bama to be ahead of TN if the committee goes by their own rules.

I'm not saying anything is "right" or "wrong" - but Tennessee made it VERY hard to disregard the South Carolina game.
If it had been close then I doubt there's even a debate, but the playoff committee has shown multiple times over the years that blowout losses put the kibosh on teams. Probably because they feel if you are going to get blown out by South Carolina, you're likely going to get obliterated by Michigan or USC.

Neither of these teams is getting in over a 1 loss P5 team. TCU, Georgia, & Michigan are in regardless of conference championship outcome. The question becomes does USC win. If USC wins they are in. If they lose OSU is in. OSU has better wins in total and one less loss.

It's funny how playoff proponents' biggest reason is to decide it on the field...except when deciding it on the field doesn't go the way they'd like, and then there are alternative reasons to have and expand playoffs.
