And a few things jump out at me.

1) There were many LSU fans who considered Alabama a rival even before Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa. That's somewhat surprising because I never really gave y'all the time of day until that happened.

2) Duckie was the only person who seemed to know what was about to happen. Most people in the thread doubted Saban could do anything substantial at Alabama. He was the only one saying that Saban was about to come in and dominate.

3) @ the thought of Saban being unable to recruit Louisiana. Someone claimed that Saban and Orgeron (then the head coach of Ole Miss) would be fighting for LSU's scraps. I find this amusing because this year's Heisman Trophy winner will likely be a player from the state of Louisiana, recruited by Saban to Alabama.

DeVonta Smith
Dylan Moses
Christian Harris
Christopher Allen
Phidarian Mathis
Slade Bolden

This is only 2020. I could back-date this over the last ten years. It would be interesting.

Devonte Smith was paid for not recruited and that’s pretty well known around here

He was probably offered money to stay in state but recoiled when he found out it was being funneled from a Children's Hospital.

DeVonta Smith - wanted, but no one thought he'd be this good
Dylan Moses - wanted, but went to IMG and Les got fired
Christian Harris - Aranda didn't want, bizarre situation
Christopher Allen - wanted (I wanted badly)
Phidarian Mathis - didn't want
Slade Bolden - definitely didn't want

Saban doesn't just recruit Louisiana well, he takes from everyone's home turf. Thankfully we've gotten MOST of the players we've wanted in Louisiana.

I think Cam Robinson was the biggest miss for us. Devonta is awesome, but we are always in need of OTs more than WRs.

ETA:

If he takes Will Campbell next year, I'll melt a nice juicy melt. We rarely get top OLs in Louisiana which is a big reason we're always shitty at the position. When we finally have one, we have to get him. Can't have Cam Robinson 2.0.

Moses only went to Bama because Les was getting canned. We could’ve had Harris if we let him play the position he wanted. Aranda screwed that up. The others on that list are scrubs

D. Smith will be the first player saban recruited from LA to bama that will be a first rd draft pick.

That's hard to believe when you consider how many VERY highly rated guys saban got from LA since 2007.

Alabama may have had the greatest luck in the history of college football when Rich Rod turned you down. Crazy.

Bruh, the barber. It is the worst kept secret in Louisiana high school football. Sopsher was paid off too, big ROI on that one.

Was told at a Christmas Party by a VERY reliable Alabama booster that it was a done deal.
Nearly threw up in my creme brulee.

Damn. That’s disappointing.

Maybe if we had the greatest coach of all time, most dominant dynasty in the history of the sport, the best facilities in college football, and had produced more NFL players than any program in the country - we wouldn’t have had to get into a bidding war with a team who hadn’t finished better than a tie for 3rd place in their own division since those guys were in elementary school.

Glad the barber came through for us.

Looking at the # of guys that he's had drafted in the 1st round, I'd have to conclude that the talent coming out of La. must be over rated.

I understand you would want to forget all the arse-whippings LSU handed Bama then.

It’s really not a true rivalry because Alabama leads the series against LSU by such a lopsided amount.

I bet he has a losing record against LSU. He didn't win a championship at MSU. He was below 500 as NFL coach. I don't think the other SEC schools are quaking in fear of Saban.I'm very grateful for what he did at LSU but he left for his dream job. He can't use his up and coming future NFL coach as a recruiting tool anymore.
