Seems we can all agree that there is no “fair” way to pay players. But what if the amount a player received was based on performance? Could that work? Here’s my idea:

All players get the same base pay at every school (I’ll use $500 per game purely as an example) + potential bonuses based on performance.

Let’s look at a recent SEC matchup between a big program and smaller program: Ole Miss vs Alabana

• QB John Rhys Plumlee had 3 TDs and ran for 109 yards vs Alabana:
- (base) * ((1.3)*(1.109))
= ($500) * (1.44) = $720.

• Ole Miss ran for 290 yards vs Alabana - so for each offensive linemen:
- ($500) * (1.290) = $645
- or for 470 total yards ($500) * (1.470) = $735

Or maybe you cut out player specific pay - and make it based on the entire offensive or defensive production.

• Ole Miss scored 31 points vs Alabana, so the players that actually played each get:
- (($500) * 1.31) = $655.

This eliminates the issue of determining how much one player gets compared to another - while also motivating players to play better. Thoughts?

Let’s keep the discussion civil and serious since this is the hot debate topic!

How about they enjoy being state-wide celebrities, being treated like royalty, getting the best nutrition, the best medical care, the best facilities to relax in, and an opportunity that 98% of people will never get?

Instead of having to be paid for it. Their college is already paid for, what more do you need ?

I still think the best idea I’ve heard is an insurance market for potential injuries where basically an actuary assigns a value to each player and the school must pay that premium. Fends off Title IX issues also.

I can only imagine the face of a sad, strange man that took the time to type that out and also format it. Your mother deserves better William.

The more I read your posts the more I’m convinced Billy Mays never died and he’s an LSU fan.

A&N will probably pay their players $1,000 per yard.

Might as well overpay the players if you’re overpaying the coach.

what is your answer when the starting QB in the heisman race says "hey coach, I'm making the same base rate as the punter who only plays 4 snaps a game. That aint fair dog. I demand my base be 1K minimum or I'm sitting out"

What do you do...what do you do?

For those paying attention, many if not most of the players are already getting paid.

I am sick of the NCAA forcing folks to forfeit games because a coach pushed his guys to an agent, book sales, church collection plates, $1,000 handshakes, steaks, food for their families. Let them pay and play.

Let players get paid whatever a booster wants to pay for them to go to a school. The key is that no-one from the school can be involved.

What do you do...what do you do?

You establish guidelines before anyone gets anything. The base is the same for every athlete in every sport. (Whatever that may be - probably not $500.)

A Heisman QB would likely be making much more based on his performance alone. If he wants more - he has to play better.
