Hes been out of coaching for a decade and hasnt recruited a HS player since 1991.... This could honestly be a worse hire than Orgeron

Isnt this about the third or fourth time he has been a "done deal" ???
I remember him being a done deal at two different schools at the same time a few years back, actually.

Why would he be an "awful" hire? I don't get that narrative at all. I think Gruden misses the game just from hearing him talk and it's obvious that he has a love for Tennessee. I think it would be a slam dunk hire for the Vols for many reasons and great for the SEC to have him in it.

He'd definitely be a splashy name-hire, but I have a hard time seeing anyone trading in a cushy broadcasting job for a similarly-paying coaching job where a lot more is demanded of you over a much bigger stretch of the year.

Then again, I'm a lazy prick and coaching definitely doesn't run in my veins.

Elite user Johnny B. Goode strikes again.

Imagine Saban and Gruden locking horns annually in the TSIO

I'll say this. It's well past time for the TSIO to be a big deal again. I'm sick of fans at other schools disparaging the game. With Gruden, y'all might actually start holding up your end of the bargain. :coco2:

Agreed. I don't understand their infatuation with Gruden.

He won a SB with Dungy's team, beating his own players in the process.

I mean, it obviously does.

After all, if Nick Saban -- who was a failure in the NFL because he didn't get Brees -- can start racking up NCs, that obviously means Gruden is gonna come in and wreck shop.

First...if Gruden WERE to go back into coaching, and at the college level it's obvious UT would be the school. Aggies, arky, etc fans putting him on their list are truly delusional. I would even put money on bama not being able to get him to do it unless they just went super cray cray money wise. UT would get him cheaper than bama would.

2nd...I dont think he's coming back to coaching. Would be stupid unless he is just stupidly bored.

3rd...I hope he is one of Curries first calls. Not haslam or any other donor. Gruden, Manning, and some others that aren't so much the money. A board of people like them, and knock it all out. Then just tell (don't ask) the donors the plan. To many wieners in the honeyhole. Actually hope Curries has already spoken to Gruden, and knows that he has no interest. Other than just being forum fodder to help get jones out like he was for hart to help get Dooley out.

Oh and Gruden was also a GA at UT, and met his wife and the rest is history. He's all Big Orange thats for sure.
