How are they the 9th ranked team in the country & in a NY6 Bowl? They only have three wins against teams with winning records. Those teams are Ohio, Minnesota, & Maryland. Michigan & Ohio State just get fat beating up on all these corn fed stale midwestern rosters coached by retread uninspired coaching staffs.

ETA: but seriously, the playoff committee is nothing but a more subjective version of the AP.

Wins aren't as important as their two "good" losses to the #2 and #4 teams.

Is Texas back yet?

quote:They're definitely getting the benefit of the doubt over other 2-loss teams (like Washington or some Group of 5 champions). Some of that is probably because of James Franklin's prior 8 seasons, some of which were pretty successful that saw them play (and win) some bigger bowl games.

Pretty shocking that their only games against ranked opponents were against Ohio State and Michigan, neither of which were tremendously close except for Ohio State for a few quarters.
But to their credit, they have taken care of business against the lesser opponents. They were favorites in all 10 of their other games and covered the spread in 8 of those (also covered against Ohio St., albeit that was a +15.5 line at home and they lost by 13, so not overly impressive either). Not since week 1 (@Purdue) were they ever really challenged by a team other than OSU or Michigan.

Because 6 bowls x 2 teams each = 12?

I have been saying this all season long
B1G West is a joke
B1G East played such weak schedules the committee should be ashamed of rewarding them with high ranks (Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State)

As a Penn State fan I will be the first to admit we aren't a top 10 team but I don't vote. We are a young and talented team and should be outstanding and worthy of a top 10 ranking next year.
I would say we are ranked in the top 10 by default...there isn't anyone else worthy of being ranked ahead of us. The PAC 12 knocked each other out of the playoffs and down in the rankings. Big 12 is ALWAYS weak. ACC and SEC were down quite a bit this year. Georgia and Michigan are the best teams in the country period.

Sounds a whole lot like Bama.

They did destroy Auburn at JHS. I know Auburn was down, but it gave Bama and LSU much more competitive games than it did Penn State.

Texas clears Penn State. Penn State is the worst team in the top ten and possibly top fifteen (debatable). I’d argue Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, and even South Carolina as well as Ole Miss would beat them. They’re a six-seven win team in the SEC as it stands.
However, they have a bright future with major standouts in the running game and defense. Not to mention Allar being a top 2-3 QB from the last recruiting class. I just don’t trust Franklin to reel it all in.

That’s basically apples and oranges, UMass held A&M to a slow game and we see what happened with them against Alabama and LSU. Florida beat Utah who defeated USC twice. Notre Dame destroyed Clemson and got throttled by Stanford and Marshall.

It’s because the rose bowl wants a big ten team and there are already two in the playoff. That’s why. Texas football fans are idiots. And whiners.

Yeah, they have to put a big name and the highest ranked big ten team not in the playoff there. Penn State is simply that, it’ll be a solid enough game, I’ll be watching

Ok, pump the brakes on this sec dikkriding for a second. I hate PussyCat State, too, but your post is fukked up. Penn St. had a MURDER schedule, dude...if not for o$u and Michigan, they would be Top 5, easily. We saw what they did to the Auburn War Chickens the last 2 years now...SODOMY!
They would probably finish 2nd down in the sec with all those tampon teams in the south...Gravy Train city down there, for real. Never saw a more "good" conference be so watered down & hyped up than the sec. 1 good team does NOT make a conference!
If you really want to know how good the B10 is, take a look at this year's TOURNAMENT! Penn St. has to live in this tough-@ss Conference every year...over and over and over. The B10 just wears you down, I'm serious.

I will give you Bama and Georgia would beat us but the rest of the SEC we would beat those teams...as for Texas...what have the Horns done to be considered good??? They have done nothing and they won't be anything but a middle of the pack team in the SEC.

You do realize Auburn is BiPolar and this is their down / depressive phase.
This year Auburn struggled with TAMU, let that sink in and get back to me.

I agree with NitsFan here, Tex-arse better be damn lucky they're going to the pillow-fighting sec, because if they were in the B10, they would be lucky to even be Bowl eligible every year! Just ask your buddies in Nebraska. In the Big 12/sec...powerhouse. In the B10, they can't even get to a damn Bowl game!
Tex-arse, Tex-arse 5&7, Misery, OklaHOMO, etc,. and the rest of this Big8/Big12 trash pile just seem to all fit right in with the sec conference...it was already watered down enough before all these scrub teams started joining, now it's becoming nothing more than a glorified Sun Belt Conference!
