It was nothing personal. Our asses were being handed to us--with or without the lightning. I'm betting that the decision was made, based on concerns for the teams and fans.
Alex box has one of those lightening detectors that they use in the MLB. It will go off if lightening is detected within a certain radius of the stadium.

It was bush league IMO. No doubt, they stopped that game at least an inning early last night. Made absolutely no sense, regardless we won the game, but I'm not shocked by what happened. You are going against a top 5 pitcher in the country. You do whatever it takes to win and get them out of rhythm.

It happened when they were in Tuscaloosa as well. We were up 4-0 and they just flat out cancelled the game. Unlike LSU, we actually needed that win
ETA: Did they just call it, or cancel it altogether?

Texas A&M University has similar technology, Golfer.

I don't know what to say. Some of you are nuts. There was a good deal of lightning in the area last night. Delaying the game isn't taken lightly. But don't let that get in the way of a good, manufactured rant.
And congrats to LSU on a great showing, thus far.

Thorguard
This is a lightning prediction system. If conditions are present for lightning to occur, then the system alerts the user to the danger. Texas A&M utilizes multiple systems. Systems are located at the TAMU Golf Course and a system at the Student Recreation Center [directly adjacent to Olsen Field]. The Athletic Department also has a Thorguard system that is used to aid in the decision making process.

They just finished the game from last night.
Man these fans from the game thread made it here. I said it earlier, you LSU fans need to take off your panties and put on your big boys pants. Besides LSU beat aTm good.
All of this complaining.

SEC officials/umps made that call
Based on the information relayed to them by Aggy officials.

Looks like its a prediction system. They way I've heard the one at the box described is that it will only alert the game official if actual lightning occurs within x-radius of the stadium...
I really don't care, but it does seem somewhat fishy

Who is "they?" The Head Umpire makes that call.

This on the heels of insisting game one be played regardless of weather on Thursday. Also, the game was official, it could have been ended and a 9 inning game could have been played today. Obviously, Aggy wasn't interested in that option either.

In addition to the prediction system, sensors are also utilized, Golfer.
Carry on, folks.

National Lightning Network
This is a satellite network with 106 lightning sensors located throughout the United States. The network receives and disseminates information every 15 seconds to the subscribers of this service. The Meteorology Department of Texas A&M University receives this information 24 hours per day 7 days per week. This information is available to the Athletic Department. The service can show the past movement of severe storms containing lightning. This service shows the distance and location of the last lightning strikes.
Carry on, folks.

With all the LSU whining and butthurt here, you'd think we were dealing with t-sips.

Yeah, I'm surprised at the Tiger reaction too.

The umpires stopped the game at 8:32 p.m. Friday and ordered the tarp be placed on the field even though there were no weather issues at the park at the time. The stoppage was prompted by an approaching storm that featured severe lightning and rain. The delay lasted until shortly after 11. By SEC rules, the game would have had to resume by midnight Friday or carry over to Saturday.
It didn’t start raining until about 45 minutes after the stoppage, but lightning could be seen in the distance and moved closer to the stadium before the rain arrived.
