DICK VITALE....."YEAH BABY!!!"

WTF - is he like 100+ years acting like a over-hyped college kid?

I like him. He lets his voice make you part of the game while Larry (God Rest His Soul) had such "colorful descriptions" of the game.

If you're talking general announcers - anybody for the NYY. I'ld rather chew on tinfoil while scratching a chalkboard then listen to that bunch.

Man, there are so many good candidates for this... Gary and Verne are/were both borderline insufferable. Lou's homerism combined with his ever-worsening lishshp (sic) really got on my nerves. Skip is so damn bad, and it was hilarious when he outed himself hyping himself up on social media by forgetting to switch from his official account to one of his other accounts he would use to hype himself.

As a huge MMA fan, I have a special level of absolute contempt for Gus Johnson and Stephen A. Smith. I honestly don't know how much, if any, interest either of them had in commentating on MMA to begin with, or if they were kind of forced to by their respective networks. Either way, they are both so completely and utterly clueless that I believe they damage the sport. And it's not just being clueless about it, it's acting like they actually have a fricking clue about what they are watching and having the audacity to argue with actual fighting experts about nuances of the sport. The complete lack of self-awareness and humility makes me wish that they had to go to a sparring day at a local gym just so they could realize how utterly clueless they are about basically every aspect of the sport, let alone at the highest level of it.

Tim Brando is too much of an SEC homer, even for me.

I know a couple of people who actually really like Gus as a basketball announcer. In a way, I can almost see where they're coming from. As far as being a hype man, his voice is much less annoying than say a Dick Vitale (a notable omission from my first post that absolutely should have been included), and he hasn't used the same incredibly tired catchphrases repeatedly during every broadcast like Vitale. Still, your point is valid, and his lack of insight regarding any sports, even one's like basketball that he's familiar with, is just too much for me to get past. Feed any sports fan enough booze and blow/Adderall and they probably turn into some version of Gus Johnson.

He was terrible but listening to him argue with Maguire on Sunday night football for a while was hilarious. I never cared what happened in NFL games anyway, so they made it more entertaining.

Keith Jackson did PBP, not the commentary. I think ABC used to pair him with Bud Wilkerson and later with Bob Griese.
