Pac12 is dead; are we next?

Very interesting article about declining participation in football in the Pac12 footprint. Now more HS participants in Texas than all of Pac12 country.
Some modest declines in Georgia, others, increases in some southern states, especially Texas, but the west coast has fallen off the cliff. No northeast, no west coast; can it still grow based on a southern footprint? Scary times for the sport I live.

Maybe it will help us win football games

Play more Pac12 teams; you get a P5 win, but didn’t deserve it.

Yep...the liberal socialist culture and societal climate out here in California, along with Oregon and Washington, is having an effect.
Football is viewed as violent and we "must protect our children" from such harm. "Keep them away from contact and competitive sports".
These same perverted treasonists out here believe dodge ball is dangerous and that children shouldn't be allowed to play it because it "hurts their emotional well-being and sense of fairness."
Bull hockey!

You read the article? Participation is down in Georgia too.

Then how would you explain the growing popularity of Lacrosse? It's a violent sport, they just don't have a brain damage problem yet.

I did a quick read...saw that about Georgia (but, I'm in California). Atlanta's liberal, more liberal than either Houston or Dallas, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of that decrease is coming from that area.

I mean as a father I can honestly say I would not want my son playing football unless he was the kicker or something. Too much risk involved.

Oh Lord, it has nothing to do with any culture, much less liberals or socialism you idiot. It has to do with parents not wanting their kids turned into vegetables. They see NFL players killing themselves or dying early due to CTE and brain damage. They see people like Brett Favre saying he has trouble remembering things. I wouldn't let my kid play it either.

You are truly a dumbass.

I played for many years and I love the game. Unless equipment or the rules are modified and improved to protect our brains, I would have a hard time recommending it to young men. We need to go back to teaching tackling with the shoulders delivering the impact not the head.

IMO, football through the HS level has a modest level of risk. I have chronic knee pain, but that is it, which is most likely due to wrestling and not football.

You need to ask the fools out here that question, not me.
California's so hypocritical in everything I can think of. They talk about saving the environment, yet they erect these huge windmills that are killing birds left and right...to hell with the farmers of this state who can't water their crops because of some dinky, pee-wee sized fish that the environmentalists insist "we must save".
We're charged a hidden tax on every plastic bag that's used out here, yet there's no evidence that the U.S. is the culprit in polluting our oceans with plastic---it's ASIAN countries that are doing it, yet WE HAVE TO PAY THE DAMN TAX on it!!
California's the closest thing to living in RUSSIA here in the United States. Hell, even our state flag reminds one of RUSSIA. The bear...that damn red star. Makes one wonder what they were REALLY thinking when it was designed back in the 1800's.
I've gotta stop---I'll get on a roll here that I'm not supposed to be on here. Suffice it to say: CALIFORNIA GOVERNMENT SUCKS!!

Many pro teams on the west coach, no college atmosphere anywhere west of Texas or Nebraska.
Attendance is shrinking, but mostly because of attendance costs and technology making it way more fun to watch it at home.

As much as I may hate to say it, people aren’t allowing their kids to play football in a lot of places. Whether it’s for safety concerns are fricktarded politics, I see it more and more.

The ‘we’ was the SEC footprint; I thought that was a given.

West=California, I imagine vegetarian parents conscious about transgender rights would be hesitant to let their kids play a touch sport like football. Hopefully, they pull their share in soccer. As long as west as Samoans, a program or two can win at the national level.

Just wait until the word gets out about the cultural appropriation of Lacrosse. It’s called stickball, you fricking bigot!
