I'm comparing fan initial reaction to fan initial reaction. Before Pokey was fired for hooking up with a player
LSU had been to 4 straight final fours in women's basketball. (South Carolina seems to forget this) and battled UT every year for tops in the SEC. Then we hired Fargas and everything fell apart. Well now they have some excitement in the program again. Similar to when Bama hired Saban after many failures prior.
LSU hasn't hired a NC winning coach in over 30 years. They have won NC's once at LSU but no one already had a NC upon hiring.
Mulkey has a NC as a player, assistant coach and Head coach. Her son played in a NC(lost to FL when our starting pitcher Needed Tommy john surgery after 2 pitches in game one)

Not in 2006/2007. Maybe 2003 but his overall resume wasn't that impressive. He still had plenty of pitfalls as LSU in 2001, 2002, and 2004. He lost several games he had no business losing and his recruiting prowess really started to blossom in his final 2 years (NC effect)

As an LSU fan, the (over)reaction to getting Mulkey is big time cringe.
Great coach, happy to have her, and think she’s worth the money, but you’d think we hired Belichick away from the Patriots the way some fans are acting.
At the end of the day it’s still a sport with a very limited following that usually is a money loser.
