Many, many street fights end up on the ground regardless if someone with training takes it there or not. So I don't get your point. This is one reason why BJJ is the best self defense in the world.
That's the other thing about street fights, you can't stop how ever many people from jumping in. That's not a fair fight either way, and that cannot be helped.
"Training can help." Slightly.
Truth is, most people that train MMA don't want to fight in bars or anywhere else other than the gym, because it's a waste of their time and can only end badly and/or with jail time.
We teach people not to fight. We definitely don't teach people to come learn how to hurt people then go hurt people that don't know what they're doing. That's not martial arts. We'll throw a person out if that's their mentality. That's definitely not the way it's supposed to be. We really do teach to avoid it on the street when it can be helped, but defend yourself when necessary.

Not a hair on Mike Gundy's balls if he doesn't work that pic into their signals for Bedlam in 2021.
Well Mike Gundy issued a public apology to the nation for wearing a conservative news station tee shirt on his own time in order to appease his running back and his threats to opt out if he didn't. Well he opted out either way later but to your point I think its safe to say Mike Gundy doesn't have a hair on his balls.

I've enjoyed this so much, and I'm going to watch it again so many times.

The dude's talking more about Krav Maga style where you end it quickly and get separation. You're right that it's good to have grappling skills, but no one should want to wrestle in a bathroom.

I'd like to see how modern day MMA fighters fared against pankration athletes of the 600BC era, and onward, Greece and Greek influenced areas.
I'm not picking one or the other and am only saying it would be interesting to see how modern day athletes compare to those of old.
MMA, as you know I'm sure, is derived from pankration. All the drawings you see of the Greeks who were into that, they were ripped. There are many documentations of death occurring also.
In Athens and other city-states, I guess they were called city-states by then, the only rules were no biting and no eye plucking. In Sparta, biting and eye plucking were okay.

I agree with this. 100%. However, the much bigger man gave his back to the fella that took it to the ground in this video. If they didn't bump into someone on the way down the slam on that concrete was going to be pretty devastating. You kind of have to take it when it's there.

Haha that was you? Pretty sure I sent your arse to Scott and White pussy.

The last human beings anyone would want to face-off against were ancient Greeks, particularly Spartans. MMA folk train hard, but the Spartan culture was war and they trained only for life and death. They were as hard as they come. I wouldn't want to touch those guys. Lol

The psychological beauty of this video is the smug looks and smartass taunts of those two pussies right before they began to reap what they'd sewn.
Who was the other guy, the one who shoved the kid before getting his arse annihilated? Please tell me he's on the OU Sooners roster also.

Maybe you are right. But, pankration, MMA in our modern terminology, was a part of the Olympic Games for over a thousand years so, it was a sport in addition to being used in battles.
Anyway, it was just a hypothetical and there is no way of really knowing.
The Spartans did however quit participating in the pankration and also the boxing competitions after a few hundred years. No one knows if it was because they were banned for being too good or if their soldiers were taking too big of a chance on being mutilated/banged up and not prepared for war.
Many times, the competitions were so brutal, the competitors on both the winning and losing side were maimed and disfigured for life.

It is a bit of poetic justice.
I despise bullies. I despise people who pick fights. People should stop worrying about how big their johnson is and learn to relax and have fun. Everyone's life would be better off if they did, especially their own.

I think most knowledgeable observers know the threat was over after the initial introductory combo. Once he turned his back, he was just trying to get away. But I'm sure the MMA guy didn't feel he had learned his lesson yet and wanted to give him a little more practice time. I don't have a problem with it, but since you teach, you probably would have given him that intro and then walked away.

Very interesting. I'd like to look into this more.

Maybe. That was a big man comparatively speaking. If and when I do get into a self-defense situation I want to make sure it's over before I quit. Honestly, I probably would have landed a few on the ground and then let up just to make sure the fight was over. I definitely don't want to be excessive. I don't think the point of self defense should be sending the man to the hospital, although sometimes our opponent wouldn't mind sending us to the ER if given the opportunity.
The man I'm curious about was the second one. His head hit wall on the slam and then just laid there eating bombs to the head.

Just look up pankration and you can find all you want, probably, to read about it.
Here is a little blurb I found that was interesting:
The pankrateion (today revived in a more civilized form as MMA by Jim Arvanitis) was not quite the boxing / wresting match you have in today's modern world. Participants often ended up dead or permanently maimed.
The Spartans did initially participate in the pankrateion, and were known for their foot sweeps which knocked their opponents off their feet. It’s not known why they stopped participating, but I have seen 2 different arguments.
One is that the Spartans refused to participate in the pankrateion because the Olympic sport later imposed rules; this meant no eye gouging, biting, or targeting the groin. Apparently, the Spartans felt that such a competition should be a no holds barred contest devoid of any rules whatsoever.
Another version was that in a nation state where every warrior is a valuable resource, allowing your elite warriors to maim or kill each other (killing your opponent was classified as a win) in the arena was not a good use of your resources.
Spartans however, excelled in pankrateion techniques, and during the battle of Thermopylae, were forced to resort to this hand-to-hand style of combat when their weapons were shattered as they fought against wave after wave of Persian assaults.
