Oklahoma, Texas & Big 12 reached exit agreement for OU & UT to leave Big 12 early & join SEC in 2024 sources told @ActionNetworkHQ. However, ESPN & Fox “not satisfied” w/overall deal, so that’s why it hasn’t been completed source said. No specific deadline yet to get this done

Thamel reported this morning that they're staying until 2025. This tweets seems to suggest the same. There was an agreement between the schools to leave but Fox held it up.

too lucrative for FOX to give those two teams up

They could stay as long as they want. The conference is better off without them.

Of course its the TV deals that are holding up the early departure. It all boils down to $$$

Why is this such a talking point for you idiots? Of course it's all about money. Wherever you work is also all about money. That's kind of the main purpose of a business.

Perhaps. But should the decision of an academic institution be beholden to the bottom line of a media conglomerate?
I think not.

Hopefully this means we keep USC in Vegas for 2024.

Can you say negotiations?
So Fox walks away from a deal that the other 4 parties want?
This will get done for 2024.

Is it too late to add UNC and UVA instead?
More academic prowess, better college towns, and more “Southern.”

2 major things are different in this realignment scenario than in others where both sides held cards: A grant of rights agreement and a massive difference in conference valuation with two schools leaving. There is no legitimate way to legally maneuver around the GOR or it would have already happened. Normally the losing conference and network would have a strong desire to move on quickly so as not to be seen as an unstable/ undesirable conference for 3+ years. But in this situation the Big 12 and FOX have no remaining name brand football schools in the B12 and have every reason to cling to UT and OU for every last drop.
OU and UT have no cards to play besides handing over massive piles of cash or undesirable non conference games, neither of which is worth it long term to join the SEC only one year earlier.
