I went to the lsu Arkansas game that weekend in Little Rock. We walked in 1 hour before the game and walked out 30 minutes later. I could have made it but we had young kids with us so the adult made us leave. Lsu lost so it was a good choice.

What I remember is this huge, inflatable, houndtooth hat that former Bryant players were walking out of during pre-game while the Bama band was playing some kind of funeral dirge.
Yep, that was the alumni thing. Funny thing was that was before hounds tooth became a thing.

That same day State played Arkansas in Starkville in the exact same weather. I only had on jeans, a long sleeve t-shirt, and a cheap poncho. At halftime President Bush 41 came out. I didn't give a crap. I went and got some nachos with extra jalapeño peppers and nothing to drink in order to warmup. State was 7-2 while Arky was 4-5. We could have clinched the West, but in typical State fashion blew a 10 point lead in the 4th, had a game winning FG blocked, and lost by 7 in OT. At that point I could have cared less I just wanted it to end.

I left at halftime. We weren't scoring and I wasn't sitting in that shite and watching the humiliation.

What a miserable game. Not only was there complete hopelessness among the Bama fans, the weather was horrible. I ended up buying like 5 ponchos inside the stadium in order to stay dry and warm.
To make matters worse, everyone was already in a crappy mood because the election hadn't been decided.

Miserable day to end a miserable season. The NCAA investigation had started, players were revolting against DuBose.
Another thing was this was the first Bama "home" game in Ttown and not many Alabama fans wanted that game being played in Tuscaloosa. We still wanted to be in B'ham and it just didn't seem right. It honestly hasn't been right since.
That was amoung the deadest crowds I've ever seen. Not just for an Iron Bowl but any Bama game. When AU took the game to JHS it was a celebration. When we took it to BDS it was a funeral.

You couldn't have went to LSU-Arky that same weekend because State played Arkansas that weekend and I was there. It was November 18, 2000. Arkansas and LSU played the next weekend.

I assumed the iron bowl was always the last weekend of the season like lsu arky was? When did it change?

I don't know, but that year it was 11-18-2000, and the same day we played Arkansas. We listened to the end of the Iron Bowl on the way home.

Went to that game alone. Sucked. Forged a lot of hate in me for the boogs.
Idk WHY I had total faith we'd win... we sucked that year SO bad.

I went. Scored a ticket for $5 right outside the stadium. My ticket was upper deck 50 yard line and underneath the overhang, so i was high and dry

That was indeed a miserable day. Some of our own fans were trashing the home team.
In the 4th quarter, I made my way toward a bathroom back behind section HH. There, watching one of the television monitors near the concession stand, was a large group of Auburn fans, chiding Alabama fans as they walked by. Being still somewhat inebriated from a cold and wet pregame tailgate, I sauntered into the middle of the throng and started trashing Auburn as badly as they were trashing Alabama. The ringleader, a tall and rangy guy about my age, didn't take well to that. He started talking shite to me.
The Auburn fans naturally said later that I swung first, but the way I remember it, he pushed me first and then I did swing at him, but missed. I swung again and busted him dead in his ugly mug. He flailed back and hit the deck, his nose bleeding.
Some of his cohorts grabbed me from behind and flung me backwards. I rolled on the deck and back up into a defensive fighting stance, my right arm cocked down and back. From behind me, a UAPD cop took me by that arm and asked me to calm down. Not desiring to spend the night in Tuscaloosa jail, I did so, forthwith.
The cop started escorting me towards the ramp, and the same goofy Auburn fan came running up and swung at me and missed. Another cop came running up and grabbed him and escorted him in another direction. The dummy.
That was a freezing miserable day to end a miserable season, but seeing that goofy sumabitch sprawled out on the deck, nose bleeding, made it just a little bit better. I mean, you know, he started it anyhow. Had I to do it again, circumstances being the same, would I? Well hell yeah. Wouldn't you?
edit: Well, I might not would do it now because I'm too old for that shite, don't want to be incarcerated, and don't imbibe in the alkeyhall anymore either.

It was played for quite a few years on the weekend before Thanksgiving. IIRC, it was from '93 to '06 or so until the conference mandated that everyone had to play on the last weekend of the season.

Back when we only played 11 games during the 90s and early 2000s the game was always the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I was at that game. Mike Dubose is a sad pathetic excuse for a football coach.

Probably the most miserable football game I've ever sat through because of the rain/sleet and, of course, the football game.
I watched from the warm, dry comfort of my home and it was one of the most enjoyable football games I have ever seen.

I remember it always being on the opening day of rifle season in Alabama in the 90's
