LSU is 9th in opponent penalties which means out of 130 D1 teams LSU's opponents get penalized more than 121 other teams. Bama is 63rd this year.

I check this stat because the last 2 years we were ranked dead last. Our opponents were penalized less than every other teams opponents.

It's important because if there truly was a ref bias it would show up here.

This proves you guys are just a whiny bunch of pussy excuse makers.

We've been getting screwed for years on this.

Our opponent's don't get flagged very often.

2017 - 130 out of 130 teams
2016 - 128 of 128
2015 - 102 of 128
2014 - 123 of 128
2013 - 89 of 125
2012 - 108 of 124
2011 - 117 of 120 ...

Teams that avg 70-80 yds a game magically barely get flagged vs BAMA.

The refs can't sort out what down we're on, but LSU fans think they have an elaborate scheme for penalizing LSU and not penalizing Alabama at critical times in the game while doing it in such a way to appear fair. Sure.

The most amusing thing about this whole situation is that the execs in Birmingham want LSU to beat Bama because that gives the SEC the best chance of getting two teams in the playoffs.

So you agree? Our opponents are more likely to cheat. Bama opponents all follow the rules, not sure what part you don’t understand.

Florida has had a lot of penalities consistently. Despite coaching changes. We had a bias in 09 to set up Meyer vs Saban yes..but usually refs don't like us much

You mean the year when Bama and UF were clearly the two of the three best teams in the country?

Only thing I saw for Florida in 2009 was the Arkansas game. Past that...

your logic is flawed. If you pay the refs to turn a blind eye to all penalties, including your own, of course there will be fewer penalties called on both sides every game.

No, your opponents are more likely to get caught. I think the refs feel sorry for our opponents and don't call as many penalties.

Bump because I'm always baffled by how few responses from LSU fans these fact threads get.

You have to go back to 2014 for UGA to get out of the 120s... Even then ranked 99. 2013 ranked dead middle. Then right back down to the lower bottom half. Then all the way back to 2009 for a legitimate top half showing in the 30s. Never realized we were getting the zebra dick that hard.

Someone did some research on bye weeks and that's how we put a stop to having to play 6 SEC teams in a row coming off of byes during 2010.

I've been posting about the opponent's penalty BS for years. If you look hard enough there are probably more areas where the refs try to help the lesser SEC teams.

Where do idiots like you actually come from?...oh right....Louisiana.
Why in the hell would Alabama pay officials to NOT call penalties on both teams?

One alternative theory to keep in mind, is that at least for Alabama, you are relatively speaking almost every team's super bowl during the regular season... LSU, Auburn, etc... Every one of those teams knows that playing Alabama means it will require exceptional execution and minimizing self inflicted wounds. Not to say that zero penalties happen, but you probably do see a smaller amount of just pure dumb penalties committed.

I don't think UGA can reasonably have the same said of us prior to this year, so it doesn't really explain much for our standings on this list. Also, without watching all the Alabama games, I can't really assess whether my hypothesis has any basis, but from a purely logical standpoint, it would at least help to explain the discrepancy.
