Only two QBs have led Saban-coached teams to undefeated seasons

ETA: Sorry...brain fart in the OP. I initially typed "national championships" but mean "undefeated seasons"
And they were both listed as 3-star athletes coming out of high school: Greg McElroy and Mac Jones.
Though admittedly McElroy didn't necessarily do it with his arm. He had Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson pounding the ball behind one of the best offensive lines in all of college football, plus a top flight defense that was best in the conference and Top 3 in America.
Still...I find it somewhat funny that for all the four and five-star athletes that have occupied that position in the years since Saban got there, the two that guided their teams to undefeated seasons were perhaps the least regarded coming out of high school.

Jake Coker didn't do it?
AJ didn't either?
I'll give you Jalen and Tua as that was a bit different but still ...
Feel like we're missing something here.
ETA: Oh you didn't have "undefeated" in there

To run his team he needs his QBs to be game managers and these days you do need a gun slinger too.
A big part of Saban winning games has always been shutting the other team down in the 4th Q. You can only do that with good old reliable running.

A ton of frickery has prevented undefeated seasons for Saban
2012. Johnny Football’s Heisman game
2013. The Kick 6
2015. A complete clusterfrick of a game against Chad Kelly and Ole Miss (although this game arguably focused the team and established Coker as “the guy” going forward)
2016. Deshaun Watson last second TD in the Championship Game
Bottom line: going undefeated in the SEC + postseason is really really hard
