1940-41 Minnesota
1944-45 Army
1948-49 Notre Dame
1955-56, 1974-75 Oklahoma
1964-65, 1978-79, 2011-12 Alabama
1969-70 Texas
1970-71, 1994-95 Nebraska
2003-04 Southern California

Looks like it's going to remain that way.

There won’t be a national championship this year, which means LSU will repeat as national champions.

Feels really good!

The AP never vacated their championship. So, USC repeated as AP national champions.

there have been a few instances in the past where a 3peat should have happened based on the years before or after titles were won:

Army: 1944 and 1945 national champions, unbeaten in 1946.

Oklahoma: undefeated in 1954 with a dual #3 poll finish, 1955 and 1956 national champions.

Alabama: 1964 and 1965 national champions, undefeated in 1966.

Oklahoma: unbeaten in 1973 with a #2 finish in one poll, 1974 and 1975 national champions.

Where it almost happened:

Nebraska: lost national title bowl to FSU in 1993, national champions in 1994 and 1995.

USC: 2003 and 2004 national champions, lost 2005 BCSNCG.

Although not a repeat, the setup was there based on a season before and a season after:

Alabama: 2015 national champions, 2016 CFPNCG, 2017 national champions, and just for the what if scenario: 2018 CFPNCG.....all had the makings of a 4peat.

There has never been a 3peat in the poll era of major college football. Hell, there has never been a 3peat in the NFL Super Bowl era.

Alabama 2011-12. Auburn in 2010 and Alabama in 2009. 3 out of 4 and a repeat at the end of it.

Tennessee didn't win a poll championship in 50. Oklahoma won the AP and the Coaches.

Or better yet, if your other school beats the defending champs and then the season gets cancelled, we can claim our first natty like some other schools do a lot.

Funny, I don’t recall them playing in the championship game that year...
