One of the few times most of us will agree on a topic - A&M and the BCA

The Black Coaches Assoc. was really petty in giving A&M an "F" despite hiring a minority coach, all because they didn't file a "report card". This was not only petty but counterproductive and stupid, because it undermines their credibility and gives more reason for athletic departments to just ignore them.
Some of us, myself included, believe that minority inclusion in college football is a legitimate issue and there is a real question of fairness here. Others of you believe it's a waste of time or even reverse discrimination. But whichever side you support, most of us can agree that in this case the ego of the BCA and their desire to be important overshadowed their very purpose and obstructed their own cause.
AND, good going, A&M. You hired a very good coach.

Why is there a Black Coaches Association?
I believe this. Just stop talking about racism all together and there won't be any (not realistic i know). Do you see any other race with their own coaching association? No. Because race shouldn't be a factor.

BCA does work for all minorities for one.
and if you cant understand why there is a need for it I cant help you.
they really undermined themselves with this move though.

There is no such thing as "reverse discrimination" - only "discrimination".

Did not know that. But does that mean not for white coaches? See what I'm getting at.

No one in Aggieland thinks of Coach Sumlin as a black coach.
He's our Head Coach.
The BCA can hand out as many grades as it chooses; but doing so doesn't change the fact that ethnicity is always valued, yet never considered a hiring variable at Texas A&M University.

It shouldn't be a hiring variable in 99% of jobs.

Wait. You're saying Sumlin is black???
For the OP: Agreed with everything you said. This was a stupid move by an organization that might actually do some good if not for the power trip.

Exactly.

I agree with the OP here. Basically the BCA is a sounding board for ALL minority coaches. Nothing more and nothing less. Their grading system needs to be adjusted, JMO.

Thank you I was trying to figure that one out.
discrimination of discrimination which the product would be no discrimination....

I wonder how much good an orginization like the BCA really does. In a profession that is strickly results driven, how much does race play in coaching hires? Croom would still be coaching if he got results. Colorado would still have a black coach if he had won more than 3 games over 2 seasons.
It seems that more black coaches are being hired and I'm not sure how much it has to do with the BCA.

Like other associations, they become a cottage industry at some point. Any organization that specifically fights for an individual groups interests, will become corrupt and nothing more than a way to promote it's own money making interests.

It is just going to take time.. Race has NOTHING to do with it. Every team wants a coach that wins. I'd hire a female coach if she knew football and was able to win. I only offer female because there are none...
Race, age, sex... none of that shite matters if we win. Ethics does matter. I don't want a slimeball coach that cheats on his wife with a girl from the volleyball team.

Exactly. Football is universal. Wins are all that matters to any fanbase or institution.
