ON3 takes a deep dive into how much Brian Kelly has changed the recruiting strategy at LSU

Woodward knocked on his door looking for a replacement for Ed Orgeron, it was a chance at a fresh start. Factors outside of his control, including Notre Dame’s elite academic standards, made recruiting at the level necessary to win national titles a major obstacle. With the advent of the transfer portal, retooling a roster in South Bend like Alabama, Georgia or Ohio State could was nearly impossible.
Kelly wasn’t a natural fit in Baton Rouge, having grown up in the Northeast and coached throughout the Midwest for nearly his entire career. And after a few early faux pas put him on the receiving end of numerous jokes, namely his failed attempt at an accent during an introduction at an LSU basketball game, speculation crept in about whether he could acclimate, and ultimately recruit, in the deep south.
Through a very abbreviated 2022 cycle and nearly two-thirds of the way through 2023, the vision Kelly had on the recruiting trail — the one Woodward admired in the hiring process — has come to fruition. The Tigers rank No. 6 nationally in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings, have seven top-150 prospects currently committed, and are the overwhelming favorite to land On3 five-star offensive tackle Zalance Heard when he commits on Sept. 1.

Nice to see an expert source agreeing with what we have been seeing, Kelly is doing an excellent job.

I love this constant "Kelly wasn’t a natural fit in Baton Rouge" narrative like that carries any significant weight or is a reason for skepticism towards his potential success.

No kidding. That’s why he was never Woodward’s first choice

On3 has become the most reliable recruiting source, in my opinion. ESPN has abandoned its coverage. Rivals is a joke, and 247 has lost a chunk of its core writers.

LSU recruiting has never been their problem, so I don't see the point of the article.

Verdict: yes

The question of "fit" is some insulting, elitist bigotry from all of these northern writers...

LSU is sitting at #5 right now with multiple 5* commitments on the horizon.
LSU will finish ranked in the Top 3 for the 2023 class.
It is what it is.

Look this is all fun and games, but also completely false. I personally know multiple all-americans/olympians who went to Notre Dame for non-revenue sports and they didn't score above a 1200 on the old SATs. I know a number who did the same at Stanford too; so when people say the academics are a detriment to recruiting enough good players, you can pretty much ignore the rest of what they say.
All schools lower their academic standards a ton for revenue sports if they are doing it for non-revenue sports. Obviously if the kid can't read then he may not get into those schools, but he shouldn't be going to LSU or Bama or OSU or UGA or OU either

Until LSU finishes 4th in the SEC in recruiting then they are all hacks.

If they can get into OSU or UGA they also can get into ND or Stanford on scholarship.
People can put quotes in front of me all day, but I'm a living example of how easy it is to get into school if you are a good athlete. I would have gotten into OSU anyway as my scores were good, but I know tons of idiots who went to the ivy leagues because they were good athletes. ND and Stanford have nothing on the idiots I saw going to Colombia and Harvard

Are you using an SAT score of 1200 as a benchmark for ease of admission for athletes?
That’s interesting

But let’s be honest, these schools are going to make accommodations for said athlete; ND is a lot less likely to do so and certainly not to the degree the others will.
