... according to interim A.D. Keith Carter to me.

"I love Mike Bianco. I want him to be successful and I'm going to do everything in my power to get him over this postseason hump. But we felt in the short term it was in the best interest of Ole Miss to pause a little bit on the contract and see what we need to do to push the program forward to get to Omaha more consistently. But make no mistake, we support Mike completely and we're going to give him all the resources he needs. We're going to be part of the solution. We want to roll our sleeves up and help him. That's my mentality."

Good for them. That's the smart move.

ETA: Ole Miss should seriously consider taking off the interim tag for Carter.

We did this with AK and it was a recruiting disaster. AK was handcuffed that next season and the writing was on the wall all year leading up to it and people negatively recruited against us with it.

This is a half arse step by the AD. You either have faith in your coach and you extend him to the max 4 years so he can recruit, or you fire him. If you don’t extend him that’s just a scared move. You can have the same expectations and tell him behind the scenes he’s on thin ice without publicly hindering his ability to recruit. Just give him the minimum extension possible. Or fire him.

Out athletics department is run by complete idiots.

That's a sophomoric statement by Carter. Like John Cohen, he's in above his head.

That doesn't say what he really means nor how he really feels. That reads as a no confidence vote. But that's just me....

He has a #5 ranked class coming in to play next season already. Everything is in place, he has everything he needs. All he has to do is...win. if he doesn't its nobodies fault but his own. perhaps he needs a little fire under his arse. we shall see nexct season.

This was a message board appeasement move by the interim AD and there’s really no other way to spin it. This will get him some high fives from the low information spirivals posters but anyone who remembers how AK went out has to see the obvious comparisons. AK could not recruit and Kermit was hurt by that his first year. Yes it’s great we lucked out and Kermit was available that next year, but it was obvious AK was done when they didn’t extend him. Ross was too scared to fire him so he did the in between move and we are making the same mistake. Now Kermit had a gap year to deal with in player depth, Bianco’s successor will have the same hurdle.

All bianco has to do is simply make it to Omaha. He doesn't have to win shite up there, just make an appearance, and ole miss will extend his contract 5 more years and give him a raise lol. I would say that wont be hard for him to do, then again, they are ole miss and can count how many times they've been to Omaha on one hand.

This X1000000

Not rolling over Mike’s contract might as well let the rest of the world know the administration doesn’t think he can get the job done. If they don’t think he can get the job done fire him, if you’re going to keep him, roll over the contract like an adult and give him the support he needs to succeed.

They should have the balls to fire him if they are not satisfied.

If you think there's a problem then why delay in addressing it. I despise Jeremey Foley and think he was highly overrated as an AD but he has one adage that I think rings true: "what must be done eventually, must be done now."
