Eli Manning was able to carve out a successful career in the NFL with the New York Giants. But his time in college at Ole Miss also deserves to be celebrated. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ole Miss is retiring Manning’s No. 10 jersey during the upcoming season.

Ole Miss football will be retiring Eli Manning’s number 10 during the 2020 season. Manning becomes the third Ole Miss football player to have his jersey, joining his father Archie (No. 18) and Chucky Mullins (No. 38).

By having his jersey retired in 2020, Eli will become the third player to have his number retired at Ole Miss. The only two players besides Eli to receive the honors include his father Archie and Chucky Mullins.

Eli burst onto the scene in his sophomore season, throwing for 2,948 yards, 31 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Then, as a junior, the youngest Manning brother would proceed to amass 3,401 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

Lastly, to cap off his time at Ole Miss, Manning would contribute 3,600 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in his senior year in 2003. As a result of his efforts, he would also finish third in Heisman voting in 2003. Not to mention, he led Ole Miss to two Bowl appearances in his final two seasons.

After leaving Ole Miss, Eli would be drafted by the San Diego Chargers, only to be traded to the Giants shortly after. With New York, Eli put together an impressive resume, winning two Super Bowls in his 16 seasons with the Giants.

When Eli decided to retire earlier this offseason, the Giants announced that no one will wear No. 10 again. Now, after his NFL career has come to a close, Ole Miss is also rewarding him for his time with the program.

Guess they're doing it due to all of those national championship squads that he led while at Ole Miss..

I guess all it takes for your number to be retired at Ole Miss is be the star player on a team that's "Co-champions" of the SEC West.

Guy won 2 Super Bowls and an SEC West co-championship.

I endorse this.

Eli’s a good dude. Congrats.

At this point in shitty sports culture, I’m nostalgic for the era in which Eli played; Matt mauck, Brody croyle, Jason Campbell, Rex grossman.

Well, he was the qb of the sec west champion ole miss team in 2003...even though LSU beat them head to head, played in ATL for the sec title and won, then went on to win the natty in Nola.

LSU brought the house. If Eli doesn’t trip. And tosses it up for grabs. And if he threw a TD right there. He’d have slayed more tang than Leonardo DiCaprio that weekend.

And if ole miss doesn’t choke earlier in the year to Memphis and Tex Tech, they are 12-0 heading into the sec championship game.

They should retire it on the 25 yard line.

I listed 3 hypotheticals that could have easily gone the other way. And Eli is better than Burrough. As a player and a person.

Same thing I thought too...

"You realize both your uncle and grandfather who played here have their numbers retired, right?"
