This has long been a topic of interest for Saban who is on the record as opposing what he considers free agency in college sports. He’s said that while noting this rule would more likely help Alabama than hurt his program.

“I think what’s going to happen as you see how often in a lot of leagues, you know the good players go to a good team and the bad players leave good teams because they’re not playing,” Saban said. “So is that going to make the rich get richer? I don’t know. You can decide that.”

Saban on the Topic

Seems like it's going to be a lot of shenanigans next year.

The dude has been spot on about the direction the game has been heading for the last 10 years. People seem to think these rule changes have been making the game better but all they've been doing is making it worse and less interesting.

He's going to exploit the shite out of the rule for his benefit, but the NCAA can't say he didn't warn them.

"Most guys that have left here,” Saban said, “call back 100 times wanting to come back.”

Absolutely. There is going to be surreptitious "recruiting" of transfers by Power 5 Programs from other teams and from the top tier on other Power 5 programs. I can see a top 5 team needing a DE snagging one from a mid tier program.

Not as blatant as Happy Meals but it will happen.

Yes...as Coach Bryant did.
If my coach wasn't doing the most that he could within the bounds of the rules, I'd fire his arse!

He'll dominate this in the same way he dominates regular recruiting. Call any great player on a Group of 5 team or a Power-5 team that just fired their coach and tell them that they can immediately boost their profile and draft stock and compete for a National Championship

Oh....and youll get a Dodge Charger

Alabama will have a superstar QB for life now. Don’t even have to recruit one anymore.

Even before this, you can find a good QB in the portal. What I do think is going to really benefit some of the better teams is instantly building depth on the D-line and in the secondary with proven commodities.

Fans will gravitate towards the big names transfers, but those overlooked players who might only be 2 down personnel could be seamlessly integrated in certain packages.

I understand shite happens that is out of the kid’s control, but I’ll never see it any other way than a kid leaving when the going gets tough.

I’d be happy to get a few of those “bad” Alabama players.

I see this as leveling the playing field. Blue bloods will lose good players buried in the depth chart.

All power 5 teams will be able to raid the non power 5 teams.

This rule also helps the best teams in high school recruiting.

In the past, a guy looking at going to Alabama who sees several five stars already at his position, may decide to commit elsewhere because he doesn't want to get buried on the depth chart for 3 years.

Now, why not try to compete at Bama and if it doesn't work out, use your transfer?

I don't think it's a coincidence that we seem to hear every year now - "This number 1 recruiting class is the best of all time"

I'm not sure about this. If you're already a starter at a good G5, do you seriously risk going to a P5 that'll probably go 7-5?

I understand taking that risk to play on a title contender. I don't understand doing it just to play on a mediocre P5.

A BYU QB is probably going to go second in the draft, and an FCS QB will be taken shortly after him. It's not like players at the G5 level go unnoticed.

QB is very system specific. A first rounder would be crazy to transfer for a chance at a title as well.

But yeah the left tackle for Monroe that's a borderline draft pick would gladly go to State or Arkansas to improve his draft status.

I don't see. He can't talent now.

5 star not playing then 5 star gone.

If NIL becomes the letter of the law, every player at Bama will be driving a Mercedes, and in return, Saban will have them all out at the plant 3 times a year.

I think competing in the SEC on a 7-5 team is going to provide better film for the NFL. You should theoretically have more opportunities to go against future NFL players to showcase your skills
