BYU picked up a game in the last few days, to travel across the country and play.

"Coastal Carolina (9-0) was ranked No.18 this week by the College Football Playoff committee. BYU (9-0) was ranked No.13. Their last-minute throw down, which is an extraordinary moment for major college football, kicks off at 4:30 p.m. CT. It’s suddenly the most exciting and buzzworthy game of the weekend in college football, and maybe the defining game of this punch-drunk season. Athletic directors schedule opponents for their football teams 15 years in advance. This game is happening on three-days notice."

They had to, otherwise no shot at the playoffs.

Still isn't going to help them much.

Not sure about that, I would guess Washington had to cancel due to PAC12 rules. Goodness, didn't Utah just start their season 3 weeks ago?

Actually was not even thinking of LSU, had the PAC 12 and Big 10 in mind.

Sorry....

They have no shot either way. Had they accepted Udub's ridiculous "frick you" conditions and BYU somehow managed a win, they'd still be outside looking in. Way too much ground to make up.

Their Ath Dept is running a 20 million dollar deficit. Their focus is on the NY6 bowls, not the CFPs.

This allows them to make some money for a game, knock off the next closest team behind them in the G5 hunt for a NY6 bowl, and either hope Cincy loses to Tulsa or hope chaos unfolds ahead of them allowing undefated Cincy into the CFPs. Then they get their NY6 bowl payday.

You sure it was Washington?

Original schedule

09/03 – at Utah
09/12 – Michigan State
09/19 – at Arizona State
09/26 – at Minnesota
10/02 – Utah State
10/10 – Missouri
10/16 – Houston
10/24 – at Northern Illinois
10/31 – OFF
11/06 – at Boise State
11/14 – San Diego State
11/21 – North Alabama
11/28 – at Stanford

edit to add- Found the possible Washington game, yeah those are dumb conditions to place on a game (PAC 12 rules)

no, they just declined to take a short notice road game vs a more talented team while also agreeing to no revenue distribution for game sales/TV monies, and no guarantee that UW would not cancel last minute (as they had already been burned by ASU and Utah due to CV19 and schedule changes).

The UW deal was essentially: "you travel here to play us (a more talented/rested team) at your own expense and receive 0 dollars in payout. Oh, by the way, we have the ability to walk away/schedule another PAC team last minute with no penalty. DEAL?"

Is this the same BYU that less than a week ago refused to play Washington literally one day after posting they’d play anyone anywhere?

What incredible courage to take on...Coastal Carolina when you need any win possible to make a big bowl.

They literally ducked Washington last week. Now they want to play a team that has only been FBS for a handful of years.
