Only 2 have been classic, competitive games: Alabama vs Clemson in 2015 and 2016. Alabama vs Ohio State in 2014 ended up a one score game, with wild momentum swings (Alabama led by 15 in the second quarter and led by 1 at half; Ohio State took two-score leads twice in the second half). Every other games has been a blowout. I don't know if this factored in the committee's decision, but it's possible.

I think the games are intriguing going in. That doesn't prevent a blowout (3 weeks to prepare or get rusty can/will have an effect). If they played this weekend, I would feel confident that both would be competitive.

And to think, some idiots want 8 teams in.

It is reflective of the nature of momentum in a football game...kids come in pumped up but a few things go wrong and the avalanche can hit pretty quickly in a big game like the playoffs. You don't see it as much in the NFL as in college or high school. But it also used to plaque the Superbowl back in the day.

Well this is debatable IMO.

What was it like in that meeting room? Lots of interesting debates, I’m sure.

You can't know that. Maybe they wanted to see a trilogy.
