Odds Paul Mainieri is at Lsu in 2022?

Some seem to just assume Paul will be gone after this year. By the looks of things, it will cost around 3.4 M to get out of his contract plus any potential buyout for the new hire. Does Lsu have 5 M laying around to cover baseball buyouts plus the 1+ M salary?
Has Paul been that bad where he'll be let go this year? An 8-year streak of making regionals, 4 years removed from CWS Runner up, and was in a super just 2 years ago (no postseason last year).

Majority of the fanbase wants him gone based on his performance the past few seasons. I don't see him being outright fired though, I think he would have to agree to retire/step down with some kind of compromise on the money owed.

He's 63, which is old, but not that old. Especially in baseball where some hangs hang around forever (looking at you, Wayne). He'd have no trouble getting a job. Why take a deal when you can collect your money and then go build another program and be admired?

There is a plan in place, involves PM stepping down, staying on in administrative capacity. New hire will be HUGE!

The expectation is that he will retire at the end of the season for health reasons. He's had two neck surgeries and the latest one was in November. It obviously didn't take very well because it's pretty apparent that he is in pain.
He's lost passion for the game. Our teams the past 3 years haven't been able to hit and that's through 2 different hitting coaches. He doesn't do any recruiting. It's time for a change.

Mainieri will have a fusion of the C4 and C5 vertebrae Nov. 16 as he tries to alleviate pain that has bothered him for two years and intensified in the last three months.
"I can’t continue this way," Mainieri said Wednesday night. "I have to have this surgery."
The initial pain appeared late in the summer of 2018. He lived with increasing discomfort throughout the 2019 season, placing his hands on either side of his neck to support it during games. He felt miserable in the dugout.

Mainieri had surgery last December (meaning 2019) to insert a prosthetic disc between his C5 and C6 vertebrae. The procedure, done by one of Mainieri's former players at Notre Dame, temporarily alleviated the pain in Mainieri's neck.

I think they might be overestimating the pull just a bit. Their next hire is more than likely at a mid major.
Texas had to hire Pierce from Tulane. Oregon State had to dip into the minors. MSU hired Lemonis from Indiana, who are basically a mid major.
There are plenty of mid majors out there that would do worse than PM. Think if they can't get someone like Godwin, they should probably just hold on to him.

That's not what Woodward does. He's a big name hire type of AD. The hot name is Kevin O'Sullivan supposedly.

He hired a women's hoops corch, let's pump the brakes a bit

Chris Peterson, Jimbo Fisher, Buzz Williams and Kim Mulkey.
LSU baseball has more pull than all 4 of those programs did at the time of those hires.

Now you're trying too hard. Woodward has the best resume out of any AD when it comes to big-name hires.

You could say LSU has that money their disposal.

It's more than an assumption. There's definitely been some smoke that he's being pushed to retire.

Yes

Most of us were dreading conference play last year before Covid hit and this year we could miss the postseason all together.
The program has clearly been trending downward the past 4 years. He's had over a decade to get us back to the promised land and he just hasn't got it done.
It's time for some new blood.

Cannizaro comes off the deck and becomes the HC @ LSU.
I am guessing he has served his time.

Florida's baseball fan support is abysmal, so I could see that happening.

Didn’t they open the new stadium this year?

Yeah, all 250 fans in attendance were there cheering on the Gators.
