Oddest Coach Story from your School?

I find the story of Bo Rein to be the oddest at LSU.
He was assistant to Lou Holtz, OC for Frank Broyles, and the youngest college coach when hired at NC State. In four years there he won the 1977 Peach Bowl, 1978 Tangerine Bowl, and the ACC in his 4th year. He was one of the hottest upcoming coaches.
He was hired by LSU in November 1979. He was returning from a recruiting trip in Shreveport and had a 40 minute flight home to Baton Rouge in a Cessna 441. Pilot reroutes to avoid storm and is lost from radar. Eventually the Air National Guard in North Carolina finds the plane still flying east at 6,600 ft above the maximum ceiling for the craft. Pilots report not seeing anyone in the cockpit. The plane kept flying east over the Atlantic Ocean. Eventually, it runs out of gas and crashes. The wreck, including bodies, was never recovered.
LSU, out of respect, promised to pay for Rein's kids to go to any college. LSU didn't have a HC above 0.600 until Nick Saban came in 2000, except for Bill Arnsberger. He left to be AD at UF.
Any weird stories from your school?
TLDR: Newly hired in 1979, LSU coach's plane crashes into Atlantic Ocean on flight from Shreveport to Baton Rouge. Cockpit empty and no bodies found. Couldn't get another successful coach until Nick Saban in 2000.

Theres a couple I can think of off the top of my head
1. Bear Bryant getting a lighter as a gift from UK after his success with football at Kentucky, while Rupp got a car
2. Stoops kicking in the refs' locker room door at half time of the gator bowl.

Our head coach football coach was banging an engaged volleyball chick on the side and hired her to the staff. Then he took her on a motorcycle ride before her fiance found them and beat the shite out or him.
The police covered it up as an accident before the truth came out about the other rider and he was fired. Tigerdroppings found the formerly engaged couples registry.

Ron Zook showing up at a frat house at like 2 a.m. to defend his players and ripping his shirt off Hulk Hogan style. This was the same week we got Croom'd by 3-8 Miss St so that was it for the Zooker.

Gus Malzalhn is a habitual bed shitter that keeps getting a raise despite diminishing returns and having a set of tits that make Dolly Parton blush

That was what I was going to bring up. I wonder if we'll ever hear the real story about that.

Not really odd, but when Saban came to LSU he lived a few houses down from me. His son would hang out with my group of neighborhood friends, and one day we were picking on Saban Jr's sister hard. She got so mad that she swung a pool net at one of us, smashing it against a fence. The fence was ok, but the net was broken. Saban came hauling arse out of that house and started to chew us out for what felt like an eternity. Then he noticed the broken pool net. He turned his attention to his daughter and that was when we made our escape. She must have been grounded for months after that.
His son also caught a golf cart on fire as we were riding it in the neighborhood once. We didnt see the Sabans much after that until they moved to Highland Road.
My mother is also good friends with Candy Edwards and we all know those stories
All in all, I would say that Saban is generally a good guy that during his time at LSU lived a relatively quiet, middle aged dad life outside of football. When I see him get irate on the sidelines, I always think about the pool net incident
I feel your pain, Alabama MLB1

If you have a teenage daughter and the neighborhood boys don't live a little bit in fear of you, you are doing fatherhood wrong.
That is a funny story though, thanks for sharing!

As a UM employee, I'll help cover down on Ole Miss. Before Coach O was beloved on the Bayou, he was busy ripping his shirt off and challenging his players' manhood when he wasn't drunk in a bar trying to whip some young Dbag reporters arse for bad press. Back when Coach O was Ole Miss.
