Weren't there a bunch of posters on here that claimed Oats was a better coach than Bruce ? How he would out recruit him and the style of play would soon shift the scale of power in Bama's direction ? How many laughed when some called him a typical member of the "Jelly of the Month" Club. Where are those posters now ?

They weren't serious. Just leave them alone. No way they thought Oats was a good coach.

Was this thread to make you feel better about the football hire?
Serious question

We waste money on coaches buyouts, they waste money on Coleman Coliseum.

Feel good about the hire. I just wanted to see all the Bama Fans who told us how great Oats will be. It is the start of BB Season.

What Oats did at Buffalo was impressive, so I think it’s a little early to call him a failure as a coach. His teams have lacked consistency so far at Bama. Flashes that impress mixed with head scratching results. It’s still too early to tell how things shake out for him in Tuscaloosa. Pearl is an established product, so he obviously gets the nod and any comparisons at this point are silly.
That being said, his style of play is more exciting than anything Bama has seen from a basketball team in a decade, when the team executes, that is. His recruiting has been better than average for Bama and pretty decent overall, so I’m not sure I understand anyone knocking him for that. If you’re going to question anything at this point, it’s development.

How is your team’s coach doing this year?

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make? I basically described your stereotypical Alabama basketball coach since the Mark Gottfried era.
ETA: excluding the exciting style of play part.

Auburn 2021-22 will be pearls most talented team ever on paper assuming we lose nobody in the next class. Cooper should be cleared soon btw

Your coach went 1-1 against a coach who was in his first season at Bama.

Jabari Smith looks like a stud. JD Davison was a huge get for Bama as well. I don’t follow AU basketball recruiting... is AU expecting any additional big signees? Or is Pearl planning on returning most of this years team?

With Avery Johnson's talent. No telling what he would have done with it.

I have a secret list of reasons why Oats is better but I can’t show it to you. Be patient, all will be revealed.

nobody thinks bama basketball can measure up to a top notch basketball school like auburn. Leave oats and the tide alone you bullies

It’s a pretty impressive list ....unless we need to change the narrative.

I'm not sure who claimed Pearl wasn't a good coach. Pearl is in fact an elite game day coach and an extremely strong recruiter.
As for Oates, he's only in his 2nd year and had the #12 ranked recruiting class last year and his current recruiting class is ranked in the top 12 with a 5 star forward (Bedaiko) still likely to sign with Bama making it a Top 8 or 9 class.
Pearl is an elite Xs and Os coach and an elite recruiter no doubt. The jury is still out on Oates but he's proven to be a very very strong recruiter who produces high scoring teams.

Didn't it take about 4 seasons before Pearl even got a winning record in a season at Auburn?
