Because there is a 0.0% chance anybody remotely involved with the football programs in the B1G is going to advocate for or be on board with that.

Outside of a glorified exhibition season of 3-4 games that ends in April and is basically just spring practice with a few extra games, there is no way teams are playing into May and then turning around 4 weeks later and starting workouts for Fall. The logistical and health issues, without even discussing the whole NFL draft/NFL schedule thing, with that are as deep as the Grand Canyon.

No idea.

I do know if you tried to float that idea here, that means playing some games into May/June at least. Our players would burst into flames.

Nope. No football in fall 2020 means no football until fall 2021.

I don't see how Spring football would even work logistically.

IMO, more likely is they allow March Madness instead, which is their only cash cow still left on the table.

No, you can’t operate under the guise of player safety and then turn around and ask them to play 20+ games, two training camps etc in one calendar year

Said this in another thread, but if the 3 other major conference play football in the fall, there is just no feasible way for the Big 10 to play in the spring and turn around in the fall for another season.

Would do way more damage to the long term health of student athletes than COVID ever could

They may do some sort of extended spring football with 2-3 regional "games" or something, or at least float the idea, but coaches are going to want nothing to do with something half-arse and unpredictable like that.

Rece Davis - Unless someone proves otherwise, playing spring and then fall in 2021 irresponsible (Video)

Unless someone proves otherwise, playing football in spring followed by another season in fall of 2021 is irresponsible for health reasons beyond Covid.

I think if conferences were determined to play they could create a radical schedule they could get some games in the spring. During the 1918 pandemic, MSU played 5 games in 1 month inlcuding only 2 conference games, a home and home with ole miss.

But do I believe the Big Ten or PAC 12 would do that? No

Your top players that are planning on going into the draft won't play. And if you are going to play in the spring, then are you just going to forgo spring practice? How long will they be able to rest before they have to practice for the next season?

I am choosing to believe because:
A) These schools are taking a tremendous hit to revenue and will want to recapture as much as possible
B) The alternative is give up hope completely, and I would rather be optimistic.

The charade of caring about kid's health would be blown to bits if they attempted to get them to go through 2 full-blown football seasons - camp to the final game - in a 12 month period. Every bit of science we have on football tells us that is a threat to kids health.

There is just no way they do that - and considering they absolutely cannot in any way afford to lose Fall 2021, they wouldn't start something like Spring Football Season that would then jeopardize a full, normal season.

That's going to be a LOT of players. Any player projected to be drafted, both Juniors and Seniors are going to leave.

There's going to be a massive talent drain for this mythical Spring football season.

play in the spring just to turn around and play in the fall. not to mention all the players that will sit out. what a terrible idea.

It's an absolute absurd plan.
Covid may be as bad next spring as it is now.
Marquee players will opt out with the upcoming draft looming.
Players are much safer in a structured team environment with team doctors close by as opposed to 24/7 running around freely.

Agreed

If you made me choose between the likelihood of these conferences reversing course tomorrow and playing in the fall vs. a successful spring season, I'd pick the former.

Not really. About 330 players are invited to the NFL combine each year
