Memphis lost
San Diego State got blown out by Hawaii
Boise State could have taken advantage and they got blown out

Right now the contenders are:

American
Navy (7-2)
South Florida (7-2)
Tulane (7-2)
North Texas (8-1)
East Carolina (6-3)

Two of these teams are going to play for the American title. All have one conference loss right now. If chalk happens, it will be North Texas and South Florida.

Sun Belt
James Madison (8-1)
Southern Miss (7-2)

USM's non-conference loss to Louisiana Tech will probably keep them out, but if they win the Sun Belt and the American champ has three losses, they have a shot.

Mountain West
San Diego State (7-2)
Boise State (6-3)

Zero room for error for SDSU, and they travel to Boise State this week. If chalk holds, they will rematch with Boise for MWC title.

They need to get rid of this auto-bid shite. It's complete DEI in a game that has zero place for it. Hell, we play sports for sake of meritocracy.

JMU 35%
UsF 25%
NORTH TEXAS 22%
TULANE 20%

It needs to be more stringent at least. Put more qualifiers around it

We need to completely get rid of any and all auto bids of any kind. Top 1-12 only no exceptions

I'd want go be the cfp 5th seed, avoid a brutal conference championship game and get to play the DEI 12th seed at home first round.

Just wait til that committee forces an auto HBCU bid into the bracket. Not kidding, either.

Negative. A conference champ should get preference over the #4 team from the SEC or Big.

cfp 5th seed,

It really is the best position, as you also know who your round 2 opponent will be and can have staff focused on that prep.

Complete BS. It’s like automatically including the best farm team into the MLB playoffs.

Complete BS.

Agree 100%.

Should drop all auto-bids. Go back to a BCS model (with greater transparency in algorithms) that weights CFP Committee Human Poll only (similar to the Harris and Coach's Polls of BCS era) with the Computers.

Top 12 or 16 are the top 12/16. Start the playoffs as the field is set.

I'm rooting hard for North Texas. Their QB is a walkon that went to my kid's HS and didn't start because of a very deep roster (we won the State Title last year). Great kid and I knew him from playing Pop Warner with my boys. He's absolutely crushed it this year and had a 600 yard passing game. Great story.

I believe the auto G5 playoff spot exists to avoid antitrust lawsuits

Potentially Crazy Scenario:

Duke has 4 losses but only 1 conference loss. They go win out and win the ACC Championship at 9-4

UNT/USF/Memphis/Tulane- 1 or 2 loss AAC champion

James Madison wins out- 1 loss Sunbelt Champ

Is there any chance ACC gets left out all together and 2 G5 teams get in if Duke wins the ACC?

I realize this is pretty unlikely but fun to think about lol

No wants the ACC title either. Its possible the G5 auto bid is ranked higher than the ACC champion by the of the season

B12 Champ - Tech
ACC Champ - SMU
G5 Champ - North Texas

Preseason #1 Texas sitting at home. Fml.
