It looks like the SEC hasn’t decided if we are going to 9 conference games. If we don’t, tu/OU will be rivals, and A&M/LSU will stay in November. Found it interesting. The 2024 schedule with tu/OU looks to come out in May. Article from Sports Illustrated below.

While the SEC scheduling plan for both OU and Texas has yet be finalized, football is the only sport where this is the case, per Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork.

This means that there are no guarantees that the Longhorns and Aggies will meet in what would be one of the most highly-anticipated games for the two programs in recent memory.

But to get there, the SEC would need to adopt a nine-game schedule that features three permanent opponents, otherwise known as a 3-6 model. This would allow Texas and Texas A&M to play each other every year, bringing balance to the universe.

However, an eight-game schedule would feature only one permanent rival for each team, making it "complicated" for the Longhorns and Aggies.

Bjork says that in this potential 1-7 model, Texas' permanent opponent would be OU while A&M's would be LSU.

“It is complicated,” Bjork said. “The first thing is, let’s get to a nine-game decision. We support nine games. We want that to happen. Hopefully, we can get there. Let’s sort out the College Football Playoff calendar – do you go to Week Zero? And then we can start seeing models on when we would play Texas.”

Bjork says that a decision is looking to be finalized by May. But with the SEC knowing the financial gain that could come out of a revamped annual matchup between Texas and Texas A&M, it's hard to imagine a scenario where a 3-6 model doesn't come into play.

It doesn’t mean the game won’t happen in 2024 but it won’t be every year. Anyone against the 9 game schedule is soft AF. I don’t know which teams are fighting for it, but they should be embarrassed.

Sticking to an eight-game conference schedule would be so stupid.

So a 7-1 schedule would see the end of either Bama-Auburn or Bama-Tenn annually. Also, choosing between Tex-OU or Tex - A&M, or Fl-GA or Aub - GA, Egg bowl or LSU-Ole Miss, or ... (insert any team that has two long-running match ups)

Yeah, the 7-1 thing is just leverage to the networks to sweeten the pot for additional conference games.

If no one has been paying attention, the media rights game has moved from cable fees based on population size to matchups. There is no way the SEC kills that many valuable offerings...

Choosing to stick with an 8 game conference schedule should immediately disqualify SEC teams from playoff consideration.

I would be shocked if the SEC doesn't go to a 9-game schedule. If this is all driven by $ and tv contracts, it has to happen.

The playoffs expand to 12 in 2024. I’d imagine 8 conference games can help get more SEC teams into the playoffs, but it would be a chicken shite reason to not go to 9.

From a money stand point, I think the conference is wondering if we make more money playing each other one more game a year, or keeping it at 8 to try and get more teams into the playoffs. It depends how much playoff spots pay out per game, if the schools host or bowls host, etc. headache number crunching only the conference has the numbers to figure it out.

In conclusion, we should go to 9 conference games, regardless.
