I like the idea of a nine game conference schedule. I would prefer to play another conference game to one of the scrubs we usually play. The idea behind playing Wofford, SC State, Coastal, etc. to give them a higher profile game is nice, but it doesn't make for a very entertaining game, most of the time. Even keeping those games and dropping a UCF or UAB in favor of another conference game could be better.

its not going to change playing BS FCS schools.

all this means is H&Hs against OOC BCS schools will become an even greater rarity and screw any mid tier that gets halfway decent out of a chance at putting together a schedule that would get them into playoff.

Since UF and USC both have legitimate in-state rivals, both should always have 5 conference home games.

You forgot Georgia .... oh, wait, errr, nevermind. You typed "legitimate," you're right.

We could lose the WLOCP with a 9 game schedule.

Idk, you think so? I feel like we'd just stop scheduling big OOCs and keep it in JAX? i guess it'd be a bigger adjustment to UF but we typically play less home games than a lot of teams anyway.

Why?

Both UF and UG have 7 home games annually to stay in the black.
Both have an annual ooc state rival.
With a 9 game slate, both would have only 4 home conference games every year. With the 2 other ooc games being home, that's only 6.

So the game would remain you would just have to play it on campus, right?

How is the revenue for the WLOCP get split now?

Oh I'm definitely not blaming Ga Tech's issues on UGA ... matter of fact, good for UGA IMHO.

Matter of fact I think we just signed a deal to play Ga Tech in a home-and-home in 2020 and 2021, although I doubt it will ever come to fruition.

Someone gets it.

Adding a 9th conference game doesn't eliminate cupcakes.

Why are there cupcakes? Because Florida State won't agree to play UGA in Sanford Stadium without a home visit (and why should they?).

The only teams that will schedule away against an SEC school without the return trip are by definition... cupcakes.

What does a 9th conference game give us?

More of the same. Not every team in the West is Bama and LSU. For every top 2 teams... there are bottom 2 teams.
And for my money, I would rather my school govern our own remaining schedule than give that extra game to the conference to schedule (ie. I'd rather play @ Clemson this season than @ Arkansas which is who would be on our schedule).

And lastly... all of the talk for 9 games is about more TV content.
When the reality is that it eliminates 7 football games from the entire football season (instead of 14 OOC games, you are left with 7 conference games. Less football sucks). And my guess is that it eliminates good football games (ie. UGA v Clemson or UGA v Florida State).

The only strength of schedule that matters is at the top.

And that's what the conference championship game is for.
It's for pitting #1 in the West against #1 in the East.

It usually makes for a great game and great TV.
And making the CCG into a rematch with 2 teams lessens the TV ratings and lessens the strength of schedule if the winner of the first matchup repeats (ie. Auburn in 2004 when they beat Tennessee twice adn was left out of the NCG).

Jacksonville pays both schools to play there.
And ticket sales are 50/50, I think.
TV rights probably go to the conference.

Play it in Jax and alternate years each team receives the revenue, just like it was a regular conference home/away game.

Are you saying that Fla./UGA will lose thier advantage of having 7 home games and a neutral site game every year?

The gripe is that we want the tradition.

Kind of important in college football.

It is probably the most looked forward to week on each of our respective seasons.

And we don't want to give up one of our 3 remaining OOC home games for a home and home with Miss State. It's absolutely not worth it.

It's been in Jax every year since 1933 (well except for 94 and 95). The atmosphere is unrivaled, there's just nothing else like it in the country.

i think we've had a few years of 6 home games in order to squeeze in an extra OOC match up. not optimal but we've done it and idk if they'd move GA/FLA. we'd just never get another OOC again and if we did it'd be in the GA dome for the chic fil a kick off. honestly, i think that's what UGA is moving toward anyway

Yet they always seem to be contenders in the ACC for some reason.

Clearly the ACC is FSU, Va Tech and Clemson ... although, I guess, Louisville might make some noise and UNC has their years, here and there, but they are both basketball schools so it cannot last.

Everyone would be in the same boat. I don't see what the WLODCP has to do with it.

Miss St isnt in the same boat.

1) uga and florida both have a home and home with an in-state Automatic Qualifier rival. miss st doesnt.

2) uga and florida miss a home game every other year with the neutral site game (WLOCP). it's about our season ticket holders having home games to attend, as well.

3) uga and florida often schedule a 2nd OOC AQ opponent in another home and home. uga v clemson is a great rivalry, and i love that we have brought them back onto our schedule. florida and miami is a great game as well. they dont like eachother if you havent picked up on that.

A 9th game is going to threaten something.
The cons are threatening all of the above.

The pros are adding the extra game with Miss St.
Excuse me if i dont think you are worth it.
