Baton Rouge can’t catch a break when it comes to Nick Saban. First, he leaves LSU for the NFL only to leave the Miami Dolphins for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Now, it looks like he notched a win in Louisiana’s capital. Per a Wall Street Journal report, the U.S. Tax Court ruled Thursday that Saban will claim a bad-debt deduction the IRS tried to block. According to the report, Saban loaned developer Joseph Spinosa $2 million in 2006 for the development of a shopping area and office space. The project, financially, didn’t work out and Saban wasn’t repaid. Instead, he agreed to a 15 percent stake in a different real estate project, known as 2590 Associates, in Baton Rouge. Interestingly enough, Saban, according to the judge in the case, didn’t want to own 2590 Associates because of his popularity – or lack thereof – in Baton Rouge.

So Saban made a poor financial decision and now is claiming that as a bad-debt deduction. This really had nothing to do with LSU except for it being in Baton Rouge.

Tell that to the headline writers of The Advocate and The Wallstreet Journal, who both connected the stories.

Nick Saban notched another win in Baton Rouge. This time it was in the courtroom instead of on the gridiron.
That opening line was from The Advocate, the state of Louisiana's largest newspaper located in Baton Rogue.

Why would anyone make a significant investment in anything Baton Rouge related?
Saban has gotten smarter in the last 5 years or so with the dealerships in Bham and Nashville.

The investment took place in BR, and a BR company is trying to claim the deduction. So I would expect for a BR paper to report on it. But Nick Saban was even coaching at LSU at the time of the investment.

Well... this is stupid.
You looking for a "congrats on the bad financial decisions"

I heard they (IRS) were asking for 44, but would have settled for 16. Probably bs though.

Articles running sensationalist headlines for the purpose of clickbait? Now, there's something that you don't see everyday.

It's impossible as an LSU fan to even choose sides. It's like picking between terminal cancer and full-blown AIDS.
If you put a gun to my head, I'd probably cheer for Nick. I dislike the IRS more than I do Saban.

The judge said since Saban already lost his dignity with 44-16, he didn't want to kick him while he was down.

Saban beats Louisiana. Again. Is there anything y’all can beat that man at?

Baton Rouge wasted money trying to prosecute Saban.

It’s kinda funny how all the inbreds are celebrating this. It must really suck to be a product of incest like most gumps are.
