Yes MM camped out...God love him.

Saban isn't going anywhere. He loves the total control he has and Mrs Terri is happy.
Control is what MM promised him....total control. NO ONE affiliated with Alabama is going to mess with that barring major scandal, which I just don't see happening.

Yet that was a paycut from his salary at the Dolphins.

Saban left the pros for Bama to be the highest paid college coach and he has kept that up. Is he driven solely by money? No, but to act like he is above it is a joke. Saban wants to be paid what he is worth and there is nothing wrong with that.

Saban is getting paid close to $6 million a year to coach at Alabama. Sean Payton - the highest paid coach in the NFL today - gets paid $8 million a year.

Alabama could easily bump his salary up to $10 million if the BoT thought it prudent to do so.

He was struggling and unhappy in the pros though. His coaching style was not translating well and he jumped at the right time. He went 9-7 in Year 1 and then 6-10 in Year 2 having lost his last 2 games. Another bad year in Miami and he might have been fired. As it was he used maximum leverage to get the best deal from Bama and had long term guarantees, his timing was perfect. Another year of mediocrity in Miami and he would have lost a lot of shine off his star from a negotiation perspective.

Of course he could have made more in the NFL if he won but he didn't win. No NFL Team with half a brain is going to throw Sean Payton money at him, especially after he bailed on Miami.

I don't begrudge Saban at all for the moves he has made or the money he has made, he's earned it and he's the best coach in college football. I just don't see him as a saint nor do I see him as a guy that dreams in Crimson and wears houndstooth underwear.

Bama had better be ready to break out their checkbook if they want to keep him. I know that the Big 12 is an inferior conference, but t.u. has DEEP pockets.

Doesn't matter how deep they are; texas doesn't have the balls to offer a football coach $10m/yr. That's a move only Alabama is crazy enough to make.

People want to grasp on to Saban's "Process" like he is some sort of genius and was the first to ever come up with such a notion. They want to believe he is this NFL caliber game caller on defense and can out think everyone. All bullshite.

Saban is a good coach, but what makes him so successful is that he is the best salesman on the block and can convince top class after top class to come play for him. Skip Bertman always says that coaches aren't great without the best players. Saban has the best players.

Uncontrollable spending championship starts here!!

Whose school can pinch the pockets of their state the hardest without ever giving the money back??
It's like when Aggie fans update you on the bills they're paying for Kyle Field's expansion. It's a loose gauge of fan interest, but until you're donating a new wing of the stadium yourself, what's to brag about??

I don't think Saban goes to Texas but the lack of balls for Texas to offer him enough money is not the reason and you are very naive if you think so. If anything they would take pride in it because they love everyone knowing how rich they are even worse than us damn Aggies.

I just don't see it that way. I've read the shag. They like to pretend they are above the cut-throat football factory moves of the SEC. They will not pay a ludicrous sum to a football coach if for no other reason to protect the false image they take so seriously. This is the school that was too chicken shite to join the SEC and cries about the sizes of coaching staffs over here, for crying out loud.

Compare that to Bama, who will break a record for a contract and not think twice about it.

You are using The Shag as a source? Really? The Shag is filled with tshirt fans and students and it is a flame board.

There is big money at Texas and even bigger egos. They honestly don't even think of other colleges as comparison points to themselves to, everyone else is lolpoors to them regardless of whether or not it is true. DeLoss Dodds can pick up the phone any time he wants and get a dozen different donors to write an 8 figure check.

If anyone thinks that winning another national championship at yet another school isn't a powerful incentitive for the ego isn't being realistic though.
He seems pretty satisfied to just keep on crankin out NC's at Bama.

Money? Ok, money is a factor but not the main factor. It's about the hunt, the win, not just the money. It's about the adoration, the recognition, not just the money.
He's gets his adoration, recognition, and plenty of attention right now. Hell, rarely does a day go by that some major media outlet isn't slobbing all over Saban's knob. There's a love fest for him if you haven't noticed.

quote:

Of course nobody knows, not even Saban, if the Texas job will be open and offered but the chances are that both will happen. And if Texas really wants him there's not a school in the country which can compete with them for his services.
If Texas wanted a new HC, they would have booted Mack way before now. It has been obvious that Mack has never been the same since his last match-up with Saban/Bama. Yet, UT Administraion and bootsters haven't made moved to do shite improve that football program.

Naw, Mack will be retained for another couple of years until he breaks Royal's record at UT. Then he'll end up taking the AD job, and Mack Brown will hire the next HC. That's just the way the UT Good Ole Boy Network operates.
