Hey everybody -

I'm in a group of friends from college, and we're trying to hit every SEC stadium following our alma mater, Kentucky. This year our trip is to Georgia. We like to check out the scene to be sure, but we also like to set up our own tailgate. We usually post up very early and play some cornhole, eat some food, etc. before wandering around. I've done a lot of Googling and I'm struggling to get an idea of where a visiting fan could go and set up their own tailgate. It may well be any number of places, but was hoping some friendly SEC brethren might be able to help fill me in. Any guidance would be appreciated. Cheers!

Watch out for the grown arse men that have their faces painted silver and run around with grass in their mouths. They will try to piss on you.

I’m not sure if an exact place but I would avoid north campus/downtown. Too much traffic and would be a pain to setup anywhere near it. Check the UK board or look to see if UK alumni are doing anything on campus that game for a better idea of some good place if I had to guess.

Yeah that may well be, but Georgia is on the list of stadiums we would like to visit, and just trying to get some pointers on where to go.

Pick a spot on South Campus near the Coliseum. Get there around 7 or 8 if you want a good spot. Don’t mention basketball and if you wear Barn colors, you’ll be spat upon.

We usually park in one of the parking garages and then set up somewhere else on campus. It's only $20 and not a bad walk to the stadium and downtown. We've set up by the law school building or Meyers Quad (gets a little rowdy at times).

Cornhole doesn't mean what you think it means...in athens.

Watch out for the guys following you into the bathrooms.

This is the way to do it. Get a map of the university, get to a garage early and then go to Meyers. You may run into an over-served a-hole but I hope not.

Athens IS awesome. UK fans should check out the downtown area, enjoy the restaurants and the clubs. As for tailgating if you arrive early enough there may be spaces for tailgating in the coliseum area. Some are permitted areas for contributors but some aren’t. The garage on Carlton Street - beside the Coliseum - might be a good choice if they are still having open parking for $20 or so. You could probably walk to shaded areas nearby and set up a tailgate. Have fun! UK fans have always been welcoming to me and my family so I hope you and your friends have a great time tailgating with us Dawgs

Thanks for this, and to everyone who responded (or at least those that had good advice for me). This is our 6th road trip - we've had pretty good luck with our trips with a few minor exceptions. LSU and A&M fans were really good to us, Bama fans were okay, and South Carolina and Mississippi State fans were less than welcoming. But we try and stay mindful that we're guests and behave appropriately - we have our fun to be sure, but we're not generally ones to cause problems. We surely cheer for the Cats, but try to do it in a respectful way. I've had good interactions with UGA fans that have come up to Lexington, so I'm hopeful they'll be good to us down there. Let's be honest - UGA is on a different level from us competitively even with our improvement over the last few years, so I'm just hoping we stay in the game and keep it entertaining.

I've heard Athens is awesome, and am really looking forward to our visit. Thanks again everybody.
