After one day, five SEC teams are in the top 10 at the NCAA Men's Track Championships.

1. Mississippi State
2. Georgia
3. LSU
6. Georgia
10. South Carolina

LSU, Florida and Texas Agricultural and Mechanical are the three SEC teams that have a chance to compete with Texas Tech for the natty. MSU's first day was great, but almost expected, as they swept the podium in the javelin. Apparently, MSU is very good in throwing sharp sticks.

MSU's Anderson Peters won last year as well with a throw of 82.82 meters. That was a new meet record. His throw this year was 86.62 meters which beat his old mark by 3.8 meters. That is 284 feet and 2 inches for those that don't speak metric.

Peters now has 6 of the top 10 throws in NCAA competition since the javelin design was changed in 1986.

I'm guessing the olympics are in his future?

Yes, buy only if you need it to go 280 feet. At the spring game almost all of his passes ended up in the student section.

Our women's team has a ton of competitors at the Championships but by a weird quirk of scheduling none of them have events today. As for our men's team...

Top 15 would be nice. At this point I'm just hoping we don't finish dead last.

All we'd need to is run the ball backwards to our own 10 yard line, then have him throw it to the far endzone.

It's such a random event to sweep in. Most teams may not even have a dedicated javelin guy, much less 3 of them....that damn good.
But points are points and Miss State just scored a lot right there.

I dunno. It might be easier to terminate Bucknam, if we finish dead last.

I am not... quite... at that stage yet but it is tempting. We have fallen on hard times with our track program.
