National championships this year and moving forward should have asterisks next to them.

It's just a free market to buy players currently and goes against the basic principles of what the game has tried to be for the last 150 years.

It feels like the steroids era in baseball. Congrats on hitting all those HRs, or congrats on buying all those players. Hopefully this era won't last more than 5 seasons. Until then, put an * next to the winner.

Why this year?

I understand 2*20.

But why 2021?

Is this yet another thread of people conveniently forgetting that college athletes have been paid under the table since 1869?

Edit: If anything, it should be the pre-2021 championships that should all have asterisks. Prior to that, if you didn’t have pull with the NCAA, you would have investigations up the arse until they found something. They would either strip you of a championship, or put you on probation for 5 years.

At least now it’s all in the open and there’s no underhanded tactics.

LSU… casting shade…who knew.

QBs Mettenberger, Etling, Burrow were all good Ole Louisiana baws, who transferred to LUS under the true rules. just like in the old days of CFB.

Mett transferred under the NCAA rape rule which said if you are a QB accused of rape, you can only transfer to a school where it is tolerated and a team vote is held.

Or everyone can just understand that 2021 was the start of NIL. Idk why you need an asterisk next to something that's the new normal. If you were talking stats due to more games, there's an argument but not for a championship

So the championships in sports that have free agency aren't legitimate?

Everyone knows that 2019 was the last "real" national championship.
