National Champion without Conference Championship.

Right off the bat I will say that it sounds extremely weird. The idea of a team being crowned the national champion while another team in their own conference beat them for the conference title just blows my mind.
However, we must remember that in college sports we deal with a lot parity week by week. Each week is different and different teams show up. Auburn beat Georgia very badly in JH and we all wrote Georgia off after that game. Auburn was clearly the better team that week and when they beat Alabama, we thought they were the best team in the SEC.
Now that Georgia and Alabama are in the playoffs, it’s obvious that Auburn was just a better team for two weeks when they needed to be. Georgia won the game when it mattered. If Alabama meets Georgia in the second round and beats them, we have to just accept the fact that Alabama was the better team when it mattered.
Auburn didn’t get it done, Ohio State didn’t get it done. That’s the way college football works. Many of you will talk shite if Alabama wins it all, and it’s understandable, but if Auburn and Ohio State were the better team for just one more week this season, then Alabama wouldn’t have been given the chance.

Did you forget about 2011? Feeling should be familiar with us Bama fans. Has your mind been blown for six+ years now?

I predict this will not end well

Georgia fans can say this
You cannot
You got drilled last time you played a football game... by Auburn

Except you didn't even win the division.
Again.
Again.

I think people are going to have to start separating them in their minds. They are two separate awards for two separate accomplishments. One setup by a non-NCAA committee and one setup by your conference.
It is weird but what can you do? That's the world we live in right now.

I will start by saying I feel like bama is one of the four best teams.
I also believe based on the current system they should have been picked.
I also believe like it or not...you should have to win your conference to play for a national title. If they went to 8 games I wouldn't mind the 5 champions with 3 at large bids. But I am not in favor of an 8 game playoff.
Notre Dame needs to join a conference and they need to require a championship IMO.

The equivalent of this in pro football is a wildcard team winning the Superbowl. It does happen sometimes

Bama fans can lay this wherever they want, but ultimately this falls in one direction. If Ohio State plays Mercer instead of Oklahoma they are in and you are out.

ya'll didn't even win your own division...much less your conference...Bama got in on their name alone and will NOT win a Natty this year...not good enough to get through Clemson and UGA.

You Bama fans seem very insecure today about making the playoffs.

A national title without a conference title is not that weird...
If Oklahoma had beaten LSU in 2003, they would have won the NC, despite losing to KSU in their CCG.
Alabama won it is 2011, despite not winning the conference
Colorado won the Big 12 in 2001, yet Nebraska played for the title that year

Both of Eli Manning’s Super Bowls are a perfect example of this. Most people don’t think of Eli as being an amazing QB, and for the most part he hasn’t been but he’s got 2 SBs.

The problem is that "when it mattered" is subjectively defined by a very small group of people.
Saying that Alabama is the 4th best team in the country always falls back on subjective, opinionated metrics. Why not Wisconsin?
Because Alabama passes the eye test?
Because Alabama beat better opponents?
Because of history?
None of these are objective measures. It's just speculation.
By saying Auburn didn't get it done or Ohio State didn't get it done or even Wisconsin didn't get it done, you're admitting that Alabama also didn't get it done. Alabama didn't do anything to earn the 4th spot.
They just simply passed an opinion test when it mattered.

Alabama still gets in if it’s a 6 team playoff. Tell me with a straight face that Ohio State or Wisconsin beats Alabama.

The SEC should crown its conference champion as the nation champion every year. No other conference compares. Its kind of like how USCe said they were national champions in 2003.
