Dan Wetzel @DanWetzel The tone and content of this answer is almost incomprehensible. Nate Oats knew the question was coming and this was what he offered?

Looks like Wolken is about to torch Bama and Oats pretty good soon..

Dan Wolken @DanWolken · Follow My column on Nate Oats and the dumpster fire at Alabama is on the way. Truly one of the more shocking and disappointing days I’ve had covering college sports in awhile. Oats and AD Greg Byrne should be ashamed.

Uh oh, questions on contract extension.

quote:

Chris Vannini · Feb 21, 2023 @ChrisVannini · Follow There have been a startling number of stories involving college athletes and guns over the past few months, some of them resulting in killings. AL.com sports @aldotcomSports Darius Miles texted Brandon Miller to bring gun used to kill Jamea Jonae Harris, police testify LINK … Chris Vannini @ChrisVannini · Follow Alabama also gave that coach a huge new contract a few weeks after the murder happened, which was an extremely weird look.

Gary Parish wonders about suspension…

quote:

Gary Parrish @GaryParrishCBS The best player (Brandon Miller) on a projected No. 1 seed (Alabama) supplied a gun that became the murder weapon in the killing of a young mother. Yikes. Even if he's not charged with a crime, how does that not at least result in a suspension from the basketball team?

Norlander

quote:

Matt Norlander · Feb 21, 2023 @MattNorlander · Follow As sad/disturbing as this story was to begin with, it's gotten even worse. Two other Bama players—incl. star frosh Brandon Miller—were at the scene of this woman's murder. Those details were not previously disclosed. Miller allegedly retrieved the gun. Wow.

quote:

Matt Norlander @MattNorlander · Follow This is flat out cringe-worthy from Nate Oats. I understand Miller has not been charged, but Oats and the university have a lot more explaining to do. In fact, the very reason Miller has not been charged frees up Oats and the school for transparency.

This is the beginning. Going to get worse.

Oats handled the initial news pretty damn well. He gave a horrible answer today. It is what it is

I wonder how these Bama fans would react if their daughters friend called someone to bring them a loaded gun at 1am and the dude shot her.

Fandom obviously plays a part, but the "he was just returning his gun" stances are pretty bad.

they would be focused on the guy that murdered a girl, and not the gun or exchange of gun ownership or borrowing status.

"Supplied" makes it sound like it was Miller's gun. That's totally dishonest.

quote:

Miller allegedly retrieved the gun.

When was this alleged, and by whom? Again, completely dishonest.

Oates should call Dave Bliss for advice on handling the situation.
