More than 10 but clubs that should be considered legitimate contenders for BCSCG/playoff for next 5 years or so: (no particular order)
UA
LSU
A&M
UF
UGA
SCar
Oregon
Stanford?
USC
tOSU
OU?
I see FSU is getting some love but they haven't been a threat for a while. ND had 1 good year last year, before then you have to go back to early 90's. What they did last year could be arguably said 'smoke-n-'mirrors'...reasonably considered 7th best in SEC, if that.

Yeah, forgot about Stanford. They should replace Florida State. Oversight on my part. I was just trying to include someone from the ACC. I guess I can't do it.

I put aTm that high because of the overall. No one can argue with the 12th man. I cant wait to experience that game day experience.(we play them there in 2014)They had one hell of a class in recruiting. Coaching is very good.
I think at this point outside of Bama and Ohio St. I really dont see a team most wouldnt want to play. They do have some questions to answer on defense though.

And no offense to South Carolina fans, but they shouldn't be considered a top ten program….at least not yet. They've had two good years and all of a sudden they are a major power in college football? Let's see them win the conference first.

Actually forgot Stanford. They get honorary mention.

Good point. They do have a lot going for them. I might consider them higher than #8, but #3 is still too high at this point. Let's see what this year brings. They had all of that other stuff and were terrible for 15 years. Now, they have a coach and a QB and vault into the top 10 overall.
I put Notre Dame as high as I did because of last year, their wealth, name recognition, following, recruiting, and potential. Also, their schedule is relatively weak and they could make another run or two. Their coaching is finally good, so that makes all the difference.

The only team on your list that hasn't played in a bcs game in the last decade( or ever?) and you've got them third

Some of you guys are still using history. We arent talking about history. The OP stated as of this very moment, forget the history.
FSU is a scary team and so is Clemson in my opinion.

Hasn't South Carolina had 3 straight 11 win seasons in the SEC? Not looking it up.

He said right now, rise. Ags had a legitimate argument as one of the hottest programs in the country at the end if the season. This isn't a program history thread after all.

A scary team that got run out of their own stadium by the one good team they played all year.

Well, recent history has to come into play - like at least the past 3 years or so. That is what "RIGHT NOW" means. Otherwise, it is just a total snapshot.

Hmm, let's look at some data to back it up.
2012 AP Standings
Bama
Oregon
Ohio State
Notre Dame
UGA
aTm
Stanford
South Carolina
UF
FSU
2011 AP Standings
Bama
LSU
OK State
Oregon
Ark
So Cal
Stanford
Boise St
South Carolina
Wisc.
Teams who were ranked in the Top 10 in Both the past 2 years.
Bama
Oregon
Stanford
South Carolina
I don't want to put a lot of weight on recruiting, b/c you can't win with recruiting alone and there are far more clemson/uga's than there are Boise State situations.
Coaching:
Saban is the best, then there are a list of other really good coaches. You have to knock off Oregon here though b/c their guy is now gone.
Facilities:
There's an arms race right now. Many people have great facilities.
Fan Support:
Very subjective, hard to measure outside of attendance. SEC and Big10ish teams have an advantage b/c of stadium size.
Big Wins:
Also, kind of subjective. Sometimes fans put a lot into one game and forget about the rest of the season. Like if you beat Bama, but lose to LSU and Florida in your own stadium.
So for who's RIGHT NOW the Top 10 programs:
1. Bama (obviously and I should've have to justify this.)
2. Ohio State (fantastic coach and perfect irrelevant season helps.)
3. South Carolina (same as above, but better facilities and coach.)
4. Stanford (consecutive Top 10 finishes and solid recruiting)
5. Florida (facilities, last season, coaching improvements)
6. Oregon (record, facilities, but coach left, so they fell)
7. LSU (coach, recruiting, but can't beat clemson so they aren't higher and their QB isn't very good.)
8. aTm (had one good season and good recruiting, beat BCS Champ)
9. FSU (more so that they play in an easy conference than anything else, but they recruit well, good coaches, and facilities.)
10. Michigan (coaching is solid, recruiting well, had a tough schedule last year, but a good team. Should be the only team to challenge OSU next year.)

Why don't you make your own spinoff thread with your desired parameters?

He said "right now." There's only 4 teams that finished in the Top 10 for the past 2 years, we're 1 of them. Also, we've had major facility upgrades, solid recruiting, a legendary coach, and we're winning our share of the big games. Right now, we're Top 10.
