Black guys weren't allowed to play.

I’ve long advocated that Bama should claim the 1930 Basketball Natty.
Pitt, who was retroactively awarded by Helms, wasn’t in a conference and didn’t play in any tournament. They also lost 2 games.

It's important to note from the story:
-- The Premo-Porretta Power Poll, a retroactive ranking system, named Alabama the national champion for that season.
-- The ranking system was created by Pat Premo and Phil Porretta, who used statistical analysis to compare teams from different eras.
-- Alabama's athletic department does not officially recognize the 1929-30 team as national champions.
A "retroactive ranking system"..........probably a Crimson Tide-invented system.

All ranking systems are retroactive for that era, including the one who named Pitt.
They hang that banner proudly. Bama should too.

The Murphmetric system showed Georgia was the National Champion that season.
Whitey McFloyd led the Southern Conference in PPG (7.8), RPG (6.1), and assists per game (4.8), becoming the first player to win a basketball triple crown in a major conference. The 5'6" power forward would later lead the Works Progress Administration Irwin County Georgia team to a regional title in 1935.

If the shirts weren't printed it didn't happen.

So the Aubie OP is peeved that some never heard of organization retroactively claimed UA as champions almost a a hundred years ago, while UA does NOT recognize this title, but somehow this is the “Bama way” and it proves something. Meanwhile, Tiggers were giddy to claim the golf digest title from ‘03. It kind of feels like you should be teaching an Aristotlean logic seminar for the OT and Poliboard.

I did not know this.
Suck it and Roll Tide.

Less teams need to retroactively claims titles, not more.

I think he’s just mad because Auburn hasn’t won a natty in basketball. It must suck as a fan to know that. SMH

UA does not, however, recognize the 1929-30 basketball team's mythical national title. In fact, a UA spokesperson had never heard of the Premo-Porretta honor when contacted about it by The Tuscaloosa News. The Alabama basketball media guide notes the squad as Southern Conference champion with no mention of a national title.

You should give them pointers on how to claim titles (not that Bama needs the help, at least in football). Who would know better than you? You’ve got about a dozen or so self proclaimed poster awards.

The interesting/confusing question is with how many legit ones you do have, why the need to create fictional ones?

Pardon my misremembering the year of a good AU season over 2 decades ago.
