My week 1 best team performances

Based solely on week 1 and not expectations.
1. LSU: Their run game was really the only weak point, but Joe Burrow was outstanding and put up one of the best performances I can remember from an LSU QB. The defense was also elite. It was Georgia Southern, but still impressive.
2. Alabama: Skill positions were the strong spot for Alabama. Jerry Jeudy was almost unstoppable. Tua had good numbers, but didn’t have to do too much. The defense was fine, although Duke was replacing a ton. Alabama struggled badly on the OL, which was surprising.
3. Auburn: Played sloppy, but is the only team nationally who can claim to have beaten a quality opponent. Game plan was poor, but after adjustments the defense looked elite. Biggest personnel question marks get solid grades, but the OL struggled and I did not like the offensive coaching for most of the game.
4. Georgia: Looked a little sluggish, but took care of business against a mediocre Vandy team. Played well early, but never really dominated. They were very conservative offensively.
5. Texas A&M: Looked decent against a Texas State team who was really bad last year. Not too much to learn from this game. Mond made some really nice plays, but still had a couple mistakes. Defense was solid.
6. Florida: Didn’t look great, but beat a Miami team who is better than people realize. Defense needs to tackle better and Franks needs to tone himself down a touch and make better decisions. This was a weird game being a big rivalry a week early.
7. Kentucky: Not a great performance, but Toledo is better than most MAC teams. A little sloppy, but they never really blow out these types like they should. Kentucky will be fairly similar to last year’s team.
8. Mississippi State: This was a better performance than the score looked. They outgained ULL by a lot, but turnovers kept it close. Still, a close win against a mediocre sunbelt team is not a good look.
9. Vandy: Kept it closer than most expected against Georgia. The defense showed some flashes of being a decent unit and the team as a whole showed some toughness, but they were out talented big time.
10. Ole Miss: The offense was horrendous, but the defense showed some improvement. Memphis was the best OOC team to win over an SEC team and this game was close. Ole Miss was terrible on OL and must find answers on offense or it’s going to be a long year.
11. South Carolina: They were terrible. Could do nothing on offense and Bentley looked bad, before getting injured. Got almost doubled up in total yards and was held under 300 by a defense who was atrocious last year. They would be further down if this wasn’t a rivalry game where weird things happen, but Muschamp is inching squarely onto the hot seat.
12. Arkansas: I have said this was the worst SEC performance of the weekend, but at the end of the day they still won I guess. Portland State was bad last year for the FCS level and this game was very much in doubt late. Arkansas has one chance to win an SEC game this year and it comes this week.
13. Missouri: Losing to Wyoming is bad, but this wasn’t really a fluke game either. This game was very evenly matched, which is scary for Missouri. The bright spot was that Kelly Bryant looked decent throwing the ball, but that defense is awful.
14. Tennessee: Yikes. Looked majorly disinterested and unprepared. Got pushed around up front in the second half by a 2 win Sunbelt team from last season. Should have been a double digit loss if it wasn’t for a TD on the last play of the game.
1. LSU: Their run game was really the only weak point, but Joe Burrow was outstanding and put up one of the best performances I can remember from an LSU QB. The defense was also elite. It was Georgia Southern, but still impressive.

Agreed. This is LSU's year to beat Alabama.

TL;DR: Tennessee and Missouri suck. There are 5, maybe 6 solid teams in the SEC. A few struggled, but showed some bright spots.

Alabama’s OL will definitely need to improve. I think they will.
I truly don’t think we can judge LSU after playing Georgia Southern.

Nobody can be fully judged for a game like that unless they lose, but they’re really the only team who came out against a weak opponent and put a whoopin on them from the opening kick.

Kept it closer than most expected against Georgia.
That doesn’t make sense to me. The spread was 21.5 and we won by 24.

His number were great, I used the word good, which is another way to describe those numbers. You could also use phenomenal, special, incredible, solid, etc. to describe them.

Take a look at Burrow. More touchdowns than incompletions.

Jeudy is among the very best. Highly skilled player.

With a different coach, different players and a different offense.
I feel like I'm able to take a lot from that.

Or are you saying 2019 LSU is WAY better than 2011 Alabama?

Jeff Monken flew down from West Point Saturday night after they beat Rice and had Southern run the flexbone again.

I want to say Vandy is better than all SEC opponents save Oregon, but who knows?
Every good SEC team had deficiencies that should be addressed. The positives for UGA are plenty to build on and feel good about moving forward.

I'd guess Vandy and Duke are pretty similar this season.
Probably rank them........
1. Georgia
2. Oregon
3. Miami
4. Memphis
5A. Duke
5B. Vanderbilt
5C. North Carolina
8. Toledo
9. Georgia Southern
10. Wyoming
11. ULL
12. Georgia State
13. Texas State
14. Portland State

Agree to a degree. It’s not like Georgia Southern was a bad team last year and anytime you play a triple option team, it can be tricky. remember how Citadel hung around on Bama last year for awhile. Now part of that was Bama players being uninterested, but Citadel was still a bad team last year.
